I will clean and put away the broody breaker.
I will brew another batch of tea for kombucha. I'm "retraining" my kombucha SCOBY to work with honey instead of sugar.
I will go into town and do some errands.
As long as it isn't treated with chemicals or dyes, your mulch should be fine. It does help with drainage by fluffing up the soil. For a potting soil, finer, shredded bits would be better.
"Wood" is a rather broad term. Depending on the particular wood, it could be good or bad.
Good: old wood...
Just about everything will do well with a pH of 6-6.5. This was a good reference.

I don't get too worried about pH unless I see problems, or know that something is an outlier, like blueberries, that like really acidic soil.

My introduction to him was the blurb on the back of the book, Mort. Blurbs are supposed to make you want to read the book, and this one surely did, with its first sentence.

AHA!!!! That's makes sense!
Ignorant question... Do you use the freezer as an airtight box so that the frames are safe from pests, or do you actually freeze the frames? If the latter, when you take them out, is there anything special to do when you thaw them?
I let Widget out of the broody crate late this afternoon. She's still making her pre-broody noise: bup-bup-bup-bup.
I closed off the nest boxes. I hope to see her on the roost with the other ladies in a few minutes.
Really, Widget... it's too hot for you to be in the crate or...
