I have a 13 year old polish hen who I learned was blind last year- cataracts both eyes. I keep her in a critter nation wire cage with a cement mixing tub in it and shavings. This is her home base. She sleeps in there, her food and water are in the same place, chest height and so during the day...
So I think it's pretty possible to have chickens and rabbits coexist but the feed is definitely a problem. I have chickens and rabbits as well and while they are separate right now I am seriously considering putting them back together as they used to be. I separated them because the rabbits were...
I have what was thought to be three females but I'm seeing one mount the Other all the time so I think I have two females and a male. He doesn't bother the other female though
I have two Flemish and its pretty cheap to keep them, a 20 lb bag of feed lasts a month or more and hay is inexpensive- I buy one bale at a time and that lasts for ages. It also depends if they are fed exclusively pellets and grain and veg or if they are allowed to forage a little. Mine are let...
I currently keep my two Flemish in with the chickens in a giant pen like 500 plus sq ft. No issues with the buns in the poop but my buck loves chicken food so he's gaining weight....so I've decided to segregate them in the same coop and they each have their own run....
I seriously was screaming and yelling from my deck which is less than 100 feet away from my pen where the Hoeck was and I actually had to get within feet for it to fly away. And then it sat there in the trees out in the open watching what we were doing and I bet would go back if I walked away...
I think hawk! I just found a hawk chowing on my chicken this morning. Seemed to go right for the head and feathers all over! So mad! My girls are on house arrest until we cover their run :(
I'm glad you posted this I also have a polish hen that is very skinny and lethargic five years old treated with safeguard once and then 10 days later he weeks ago seem to help but she's back to being semi-lethargic almost seems miserable in the cold weather appear in New England. Yesterday I...
Interesting information. And this is why I'm always so confused...lol
Everyone has their own school of thought. I guess that gives me choices...
My birds continue to improve from the one dose of safeguard...hmmm
Makes me regret that I never wormed them regularly before. I will now.
Thank you for the information. Just an update my chicken since being dewormed two days ago already seem to be perking up especially the two sick ones won't lose them after all thank you so much
Thanks for the reassurance. It is just so frustrating...
I feed layer crumble.
I found a mild infestation of lice last week and so dusted them with DE.
I attempted to deworm them with DE at the same time I dusted them but I didn't really research it too much and just sprinkled in their feeder...
So apparently all of my birds are skinny...I don't see any worms in their poop and all poop looks normal...
All are eating except my polish...she's just standing there and has been obviously not well for a week or so...
Here's what I did- i mixed rooster booster in their food and today is day 4...
This is where I'm confused I don't know whether I should routinely warm them or if I should do it only if they're ill but often times as you all know birds hide it so well that when they're ill there and showing symptoms they are very very ill.. So can you give me an idea of what I should do for...
I have a Polish and a naked neck that I have been with me for five years plus. I have six birds total but in referring to my two that I mentioned first they're acting weird lethargic puffed up feathers and not foraging as much they're kept in a large enclosure they have a coop that's draft free...
