Just got my first group of Dominiques!! I ordered 4 females from Meyers. One didn't make it, but the other 3 are doing great and are healthy little peeps. So excited to raise these little girls, the breed's temperment will fit in well with my little backyard flock.
I am hopeful! I was thinking the same thing--that the hen gets up and walks around leaving the eggs. My duck use to leave her eggs everyday for almost an hour and all 15 eggs hatched over 5 days!! So maybe I still have a chance?? I am sick to my stomach over this ):
I set eggs in the incubator 2 days ago. Today while working on some electrical issues in my home, the circuit breaker to the same plug my incubator is plugged into was turned off for over an hour (hubby had no idea the breaker would affect a separate room on a different story). The incubator...
Might be a silly question but, are they just escapees that have naturalized themselves? Just wondering as I know nothing about the species native to Hawaii.
Last year I saw a lot of solid black woolies, and it was a pretty rough winter. This year I am seeing a lot w/ larger brown bands in the middle. But seriously, I want to see more solid brown ones.
My daughter attends West Chester University and comes home to visit a lot, so she can always pick up for me. I'll be watching this auction! Five more day though--the waiting will be tough!
My RSLs are a cross between a RIR and White Rock. They are the sweetest chickens ever and are constantly following us around like dogs. They "play" with my son in the yard and sit on our laps. BUT...I have had 4 out of 10 so far, die from internal laying issues starting at about 2.5 years...
Was it truly the "middle of the day"? Or was it closer to dusk? Great horned owls hunt at both dusk and dawn and will take a full grown duck with out signs of attack. Furthermore, their flight is silent so the duck wont even hear them coming.
