Yes I was stunned when I saw how many different colors of eggs and breeds of chickens. We got a good different variety and so far everyone seems to be getting along really well :)
They are fun to watch. They get scrapes almost everyday and it's straight up halirious sometiems to watch them...
This does not look like molt. My parents raised chickens for years so I do remember some of the molting process and i don't remember seeing anything like that. We never had mites or lice so I'm not sure what it looks like.
Are you finding feathers around the coop or run or yard (basically any...
Thanks jedichick,
We are pretty sure she is a she. Granted her comb and wattles are bigger than the rest of the flock but it's due to the fact that she's the only 'earlier' large comb bird we really have. The rest are almost all combless or pea combed. A few have smaller ones but nothing like...
Too true on the chicken math.
We started out ordering 5, then added 1 more to make 6, why not right??? Then we thought oh but 8 would be soooo much better, so 2 more added. Then I thought well we've already got 8, why not 12....well long story short we have 15
We ended up buying a pre fab coop...
As for the breeds getting along they should be fine. My parents had three australorps who held the top three ranks in the pecking order. They are a large bodied, heavy breed so they should be alright :)
As for the age difference when you get them, 2 1/2 weeks is going to be quite a bit bigger...
Yes unfortunately most of the chicks labeled ameraucana at tractor supply, agway, and most feed stores are actually Easter eggers mislabeled as Ameraucanas.
But don't worry, Easter Eggers are great chickens! They usually lay green or blue eggs, come in so many different colors you can get a...
Sorry to say yes it definitely looks to be male.
We have a single light brown Leghorn pullet I just love. She's so friendly and bold, and sweet :) I wish we had the room to have ordered more than one but we also wanted a variety of different color egg layers so she's our only Leghorn.
Looks still like a pullet to me, but I've got only a little experience in Easter Eggers. We had one 'lady' last year that had very similar colors as a young pullet and turned out to to be a stunning beautiful hen who laid big light blue eggs about 3 days a week.
Ours got some time outside in the sun today :) they couldn't be happier!!!
Pardon the small space, we don't let them free range and our larger run isn't done yet. Too risky with all the predators out right now.
We have 15 total, all turning 7 weeks old on Monday next week :)
2 Rhode Island Red: brown egg
1 Welsummer: terra cotta speckled brown
1 Golden Cuckoo Maran: dark brown
1 Blue Splash Maran: medium brown speckled
1 Light Brown Leghorn: white
1 Silver Gray Dorking: cream white
3 Easter Eggers...
I love ours. She's one of our more friendly chickens. Wish we had got a few more but I'm still in love with the others we choose. Very excited about the multi colored eggs :)
I realize this is from last year but I was curious if you have a current photo of your crested Cream Legbars? We ordered two from my pet chicken and would love to see yours full grown if you still have them :)
I know this is an old thred by a fee years but maybe I'll get lucky and someone will see this. I have a 6 1/2 week old light brown Leghorn that has very pullet colors in feathers but a very large comb turning pink. Hoping someone here could tell me if they think it's a pullet (I think it is but...
Bummer if you do. It's tough with some breeds more than others. We have three Easter Eggers and no signs of boys in any of them. If you can wait to re home it's alwise wisest to because sometimes a girly can look like a boy if she's maturing a little faster than the others. Good luck either way :)
We had one of our chicks come in on the weaker side. She didn't have a issue with opening her eyes but she didn't want to move around much and when she did she wouldn't walk really well. Kinda stumbled and fell a lot. Didn't think she'd make it but after a mix of save a chick electrolytes and...
That's to funny!
I have only had to deal with the pets being too interested at times, but as they grew the pets lost some interest and now it's mostly not an issue. Just they wait for the changing on the poopy bedding!
