Hey BYC peeps- I have 18 hens that are 3 years old and recently I have encountered some gross egg experiences. When I crack the shell, the inside is runny and milky as if scrambled already 🤮. No smell. Backstory: no change in feed, it’s been 100 for weeks now, I always do the float check to be...
Thank you for responding. Her eyes look red but not natural- so that freaked me out. I will check her for lice. I think she made her way in to my flock from neighbors but not sure who. She could be old though and it’s very cold here in North Idaho.
So- I have a refugee that joined my flock and I don’t know when.. sometime in last few days. Poor girl looks awful and I think her eyes are damaged. I noticed her this morning when watering the flock- she’s drinking water and eating but very slow. Pictures below. I gave it nutradrench, and...
Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I’m still a newbie- we are going through our second molt. So glad they started now- last year they started in October and it was already sooo cold! And I’m not using heat lamps- which seems crazy but they really do adapt.
Ha! Nigel chases Rusty around a bit but I think you are right- this behavior started when I brought him in. I didn’t know 30 hens were too many for one Roo. Nigel is now 3 years old mantle is setting down.
Hi ya’Al! I have 30 hens (🤓) and up until a month ago just one Roo, Nigel. Super active doing all the normal things. A month ago I brought in Rusty who is 8 months old and getting is crow on. Well now Nigel’s behavior has changed and I see him resting a lot in the day. When free ranging he’s...
Thank you for the link! I did the ointment and waiting for tylosin.. she is acting really weird. Her eyes look clear now but she doesn’t want to do anything. When I let the flock out this morning I took her outside and she wasn’t pecking around- just sitting there 😢 she is drinking water but...
So she hasn’t had additional drainage since this morning- no puss but she sounds a little weezy. I examined the flick and they appear clear eyed and full of life. Keeping Coco isolated. He poo looks normal - maybe a bit runny
No sneezing or nasal drainage yet- but will keep an eye on her. Thank you for the suggestions- I will get ointment on there- no peck injury but the left eye lid is swollen on top and bottom. Right eye is totally normal.
I let the chickens out today and noticed Coco was still in coop- at first I thought she got pecked in eye- obvious dripping on feathers under eye. I brought her in and rinsed eye with colodial silver and gave her nitridrench. I put warm cloth on eye and now it looks like the picture. I had no...
