    Pecking Order help!

I haven't had a case like this, but I have heard it is best to introduce new hens to an existing flocj at night, and never alone/by themselves, always in a group. That's all I know, hope this helps!

What did you do in the garden today?

Anyone know of a dwarf tree variety that does good in a pot and in the heat? I had an elderberry tree (dwarf) that didn't grow and I need a replacement.

    Hen & chick questions

I am pretty sure a mother hen will protect her chicks. My Dad when he was little had some fierce hens that would be protective. His hens would protect their young as much as they could. Hens will protect against other poultry (It might vary in some cases) and I would make sure I was around when...

    Quail chicks going crazy

In my experience, quail chicks can be more active than other chicks. (I help a friend at a quail rescue) If they were hot they would try to be far from the heat lamp and spread out around the edges. Just keep checking that they are doing fine health-wise and you should be good!

    First visit outside

Yeah, we were 118 degrees yesterday, with humidity! Our dog is a 50 lb. Lab, so we are able to tie her up without her getting loose. We have a sliding glass door to the back, so I sat behind the door and she would look at them from the other side. When I moved them outside, I put them on a high...

    First visit outside

I live around the middle of Arizona, and I took my chicks outside when they were a week old, in the shade and with water (And our bird dog tied up so she wouldn't get too curious) Your chicks are adorable! I have had the opportunity to raise one ee and she was a absolute sweetheart!

Ordered 25 buff orpington pullets from cackle hatchery Now what

Hi! First off just make sure the chicks cant fall into the water! I generally use a waterer for chicks, they aren't too expensive if you wanna go and buy one. If not, I would put marbles or pebbles into the water, they can get water without the risk of falling in. Just to be safe, I do put...

    The cool chicken chat thread!

8 days till hatching!!!!!!!! I have 2 hatching, I originally put 4 in but 2 weren't fertilized. The ones that made it are a French Black Copper Maran and a Naked Neck (It will do well in the scorching heat!) I found a rare bird farm about 3 hours from me that have relatively cheap eggs...

Hatching Question from a first-time hatcher

Like move them to a different location to hatch, maybe a plastic tub with a towel in it.
