Strong possibility he is a carrier for "nn". Hard to know exactly from our husbandry practices. Still deciding if we are going to build a special coop for breeding groups or continue to let them free range. The garden suffered a small amount, but the (excellent) condition of birds (and its...

Between the baby and life, I haven't even had much time to lurk! Keep the pictures and the updates coming! I will say that I'm not a fan of the site re-work... especially how they changed the gallery function. Oh well. We have had 3 storms with over 90 mph winds in the last month... we're...

BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Processed 25, 14 week roos today... Took 2 hours and then we parted them all. I am so pleased with the quality of the birds. Processing really helps me understand what confirmation is most ideal. Perfect livers... gizzards just slightly fatty. New feeding regimen saved me money and birds...

BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Processing day is approaching for us. Looks like we'll have 4 people to process over 70 birds (12-15 weeks old). I'll take some pictures as we get closer to setup.

Hi everyone! Just a quick update... All 200 birds are just doing terrific... some have been re-homed, most are ready to be processed. We will be saving somewhere between 40-70 pullets and 3-4 roosters. The Fm lines look fantastic. I have a back-log of images to upload once everything on the...

Been ultra-busy on the farm, so a very quick update: Batch #2 has been moved to the remodeled Egg-mobile... Batch #1 (below) is still going strong in the chicken tractors. Primary pasture is coming in nicely, I might give it another 3 weeks before I run any animals on it.

    Rabbits!

Everything has trade-offs, but I personally swear by plastic hdpe crocks in winter... In general I use a gravity fed nipple system, it is infinitely easier to service and clean then what you are thinking about. If you are as close to me as I think you should look into this ...

    February 2017 Hatch-a-long

If I remember correctly you had silkies right? I'm not as sure how resilient they are, but in general the birds should have access to these temps at these weeks: 0 - 100F / 1 - 95F / 2 - 90F / 3 - 85F / 4 - 80F... and so on... until they are fully feathered. That being said, being cold and/or...

I haven't been gone, I promise... I've been lurking, just a bit less... Thorough update: Weather is above freezing! Parent stock birds were moved to the barn so that we could clean out the mobile coop (and let our garlic grow ). Batch #1 is now in our chicken tractors on grass... At 7 weeks...
