Applegal - I am thinking of trying to under seed the corn with white clover. I got some last year from the local feed store but time got away from me last season and so I never got to it when it needed to be done. (Clover needs to be seeded when the corn is at the 2-4 leaf stage.) And thanks...
Just a thought - if you're going to keep the green roof concept, drainage will need to be addressed. The article didn't mention drainage and it appears that it would flood in a good rainstorm if it didn't have it.
Thanks, Nevada Sun, and I hope your garden attempt is successful!
I found some more information that might be useful to others starting with Pat's write-up on muddy runs:

and this one which covers several issues with...
Hello, all! I tried to search through past threads to see if anyone else has done this and didn't come up with anything. I would like to build portable pens for my chickens and turkeys this year and move them out of their current areas for the year. The yards have become nasty, muddy, yucky...
I don't have my Midgets yet but Laura from this place will be putting some eggs in the incubator for me soon. I don't know if she would be willing to ship some eggs to you or not (she will not ship poults), you'd have to ask. She's been great to email with.
Good luck!

Well, or at least they'll try to, depends on how skinny they are. I found one this winter that tried to squeeze it's way through my 1"x2" mesh that I have for the chicken yard. Apparently, it got about halfway through, got stuck and froze to death.

Your kidding right???? My waterer's are metal, my feeders are metal, my wire is metal..... That's a new one to me.
No, not kidding. Cornell's Ornithology Lab mentions it on their website - not a big mention but someone saw it happen and reported it to them. If your accessories are...
Greetings, fellow upstate New Yorker! While I don't have experience with building any hoop house yet (it's on my list of things to do), I do have a concern about using bare metal around birds in wintertime. It's been said to not use bare wire to hold up feeders for wild birds as they can end...
I think it's a great idea if you have left over diapers that your child has out grown. I wouldn't go out and buy diapers just for that purpose, though.
Well, could you build it yourself? I had my dad help me with the first coop but I've done the other three myself. My husband certainly had no interest in it and if I wanted chickens, I had to do it myself. My coops aren't marvels of engineering by any stretch of the imagination, but they keep...
Eep - you're on the other side of the state from me. I'm in Wayne county, not terribly far from the southern shore of Lake Ontario. None of these are games, they are mixed breed large fowl, with the exception of the Polish cross, he's a bit smaller. I'll try to get some pics up.
How about if I offer to meet part of the way? I have eight of these guys - I would really like to find homes for them, if possible. Two of them are white with red across the shoulders/wings, another two are a golden red, two or three others are charcoal grey/black cherry and the last guy is a...
Hi, everyone! I have several roosters that I would like to offer as flock guardians only at this time. The neighbors are starting to complain so they have to go. They are mixed breeds that I hatched around April 1. I know that they would make good eating, please don't point that out, I would...
Hey, Bryan, I'm glad your peeps are doing much better. Sorry I didn't see this until now - there's a vet clinic in Penn Yan that will do chickens. I know that's further away from you than Cornell but you could ask for advice over the phone if there's a next time (hopefully not). Here is their...
Is this a one time thing or ongoing?
If a one time thing, talking with the landlord would probably be a good place to start. See if he can nip that sort of behavior in the bud. If it's ongoing, you could always just have a conversation with local law enforcement and see what recourse/options...
I rather like the name whistle pig.....
Yes, those bloody chucks are an awful nuisance. I had one of this year's crop charge me when I was in my backyard the other day. Umm, scary, I was thinking rabies since that was out of character. I found a big stick and came across another one in the...
