    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

I may be going a bit overboard but I bought both digital hygrometer with probes as well as the types with needles. Both have temps as well. Clearly the hens have more confidence than I do. I was excited now I'm stressing. Good Lawd.

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

I set 9 backyard mutts!! I have one of those Janoel 12 types. Just when it gets the perfect temp and humidity, all of a sudden the digital read thermometer starts changing. The incubator is currently reading 39.5 C but the digital read out states 97 F. I have moved the digital probe to...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

Have been fiddling with the thermostat on the little incubator I have in order to get the temp to 99.5. It is set in celsius so learning the conversion. The amount of water they say to put in caused the humidity to spike to 82%. It's down to 67% now. Glad I started figuring this stuff out a...

    New chickens!

You look so happy. I'm happy for you. Thanks for sharing. Our dog was very interested when the chicks were moved outside. She actually almost took off a head that stuck through the cage wire we had the chickens in. We kept our dog (English Shepherd-LOVES to chase off birds in our yard) on a...

    Arizona Chickens

Wow, the wood working craftsman/womanship is beautiful! Not chicken related but backyard related. Lost a rabbit (senior buck) last weekend to unknown predator. Unfortunately, the rabbit was loose in the yard. The rascal didn't want to go back in his cage. The next morning, I saw fur...

    Rabbit thread!!!

question - I have a 2 year old doe who has pulled fur twice in the past month. The first time, it was a lot. I was nervous that she snuck out and had a surprise for me. No babies, just fur. She looked like she was eating some of it. I took it out, brushed her gave her hay to avoid any...

    Rabbit thread!!!

Congrats on your new family members. I don't know how old they are. The first thing that comes to mind is that she may be pregnant. My calmest females develop an attitude of sorts during their pregnancy. Some of my females get pretty "snarky" when they are about 5-6 months old. I equate it...

    Arizona Chickens

I lost my two original hens (3 yrs old) last weekend to a predator. Completely my fault. The girls wouldn't enter their coop for a few days after free ranging . I checked the coop several times (during the day and evening) and was unable to locate any reason why. (except the over abundance...

Have you offered the inspector any tasty beverages or perhaps a VIP coupon to your favorite brewery? I'm sorry you are having to go through this.

    Rabbit thread!!!

So sorry for the loss. I lost a litter of kits and an unrelated 3 y o doe to heat stroke this summer. The timer on the a/c in the bunny shed malfunctioned. I felt terrible. I understand doing all the research, feeling as if you are doing the best for your rabbits and then something you can...

    Arizona Chickens

I've done that with my chickens - researched it a lot on youtube before doing so. I haven't had any escapes. I make sure to keep whatever I can pulled away from the fence line as well. Not sure if it works on turkeys. Best of luck

Magic Chicken - that is too funny. I have a pretty special chicken too. She's a hen that lays an egg just about every quarter. I guess she doesn't want to wear herself out. Seriously, any other person would have made a fine meal of her. DH likes her ornery personality so she stays.

Oh Cyborg - that is a lot of work. You and your wife seem to take everything in stride. I get so frustrated when I get things set up just the way I like and mother nature has a party at our expense. It could always be worse I suppose. I'm confident you will be back at it getting things up and...
