A picture of about 1910 showing Mrs Van Loon feeding the Campines at the farm of Mme Van Schelle in Merksplas, Belgium. Madam Van Schelle was the vice-president of the American Campine Club around that time and exported many of her own Belgian Campines to the States. Today Luk Van Bouwel is...

    Campine Chicken thread?

As far as I know Brakels and Campines are not bred together. Untill recently they had only Brakels in Belgium, Holland and Germany. In the UK and Ireland they have mostly Campines. And in Scandinavia both breeds can be found. The henfeathering trait is also not wanted in Brakels and is a...

    Campine Chicken thread?

They're from 2016. I like them but they're also not perfect, although thanks for all the compliments. some of the hens have really ugly combs and the rooster's tail is too horizontal. the hens also lack some elegance and should stand more regal on their legs. For me personally they look too...

    Campine Chicken thread?

I thought the tail had to be 40° in accordance with the back line. not with ground level. So if the back is sloping from head to tail by 10° then the tail is at 30° compared to a horizontal level. But saddle feathering is important. Watch this 1900 drawing, the artist clearly depicted the saddle...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

And some older pictures of Campine hens, from 1865 and 1893. Looks like they have rose combs, not to mention very watery pencilling. These could be the ancestors of both the current Campines and of the pencilled Hamburgs.
