Great article. I have a talk coop and run but I didn’t really think about the ventilation part. I just wanted to be able to walk upright so I could spend more time with my chickens. 😂 Fast forward to now, those 13 wk old jerks won’t really let me hold them.

6 wk old Light Brahma Cockerel? I hope not.

When would I know more definitively? Am I just waiting on a crow with bated breath? 😂

6 wk old Light Brahma Cockerel? I hope not.

This is Sweet Baby. Hatch date approximately May 5. So about 6 wks today. I noticed some red on her comb. Is this cockerel instead of a pullet?

Thank you. I’m a first time chicken keeper. This is my second batch of chicks ever. I’m really hoping that we don’t get too attached and can’t keep it.

Picked up this gorgeous little Easter Egger on Friday. They hatched on Thursday. Looking at its wings I have suspicions that this is a cockerel. Any opinions? Thanks for y’all’s help in advance.

3 Almost 4 week Old Chicks

I currently have 7 little ladies. I'm fairly sure that they are all hens but what's the harm in checking. 😂 Also 2 of the ladies are mystery breeds. Any ideas about what breed they are? I'll post them first. Nubia: We thinks she's an Australorp and not a Black Jersey Giant because of the...

My 2 almost 3 week old chick looks like this today.

I didn’t see any injuries on the skin. Initially I thought it was asymmetrical due to the pin feathers growing in funky.

My 2 almost 3 week old chick looks like this today.

This puts me at ease. My 13 yr old was panicking and told my 9 yr to not be surprised when the chick died. 🥴

Yes. The distended chest. I was writing on the fly while trying to keep my kids calm.

I thought it might be her crop. How would I know if it’s impacted?

My 2 almost 3 week old chick looks like this today.

At first I thought it was pin feathers but the area is kind of squishy. She’s eating, drinking. The other chicks are pecking at the spot. What is going on?

The end is always so hard.

Should I be worried about this poop?

Thank you! I just didn't want to have that situation where everything seems fine then bam.

Should I be worried about this poop?

Using Scratch and Pecked unmedicated starter mash. Found this a few days ago and again a few days later. Don't know if it's normal. Everyone is eating and drinking great. Everyone is growing ok. They are about 1 week old. Only one chick has had pasty butt only one time.

    Mystery Chicks bought on impulse

Hi. I picked up 2 chicks from the feed store on impulse. Per the store Cackle Hatchery didn't label them and should have. Per Cackle it was a surprise assortment deal and not knowing is half the fun. 😂 Anyways here are my cuties. Also below are the suggested question answers. 1. Where did you...

What kind of chick food do you use?

I'm using Scratch & Peck Starter Mash. The chicks seem to like it. I plan on trying fermenting again. I think I did it wrong the first time and the chicks didn't like it.

    Hi! Excited to be here.

I’m super new to chickens. I got my first chicks on May 6th and 8th. I currently have 7 chicks. I’m expecting 2 more the week of June 9th. The idea of the self reliance and providing a good life and having the companionship really attracts me to being a chicken keeper. Additionally, I come from...
