With the problem being fire ants and rodents, I would get or build a treadle feeder with short legs making sure the treadle doesn't maintain contact with the ground except when a bird is feeding.... The guard takes care of the rats/mice.....Ants... When you setup your feeder put the legs in cups...
A tremendous amount of work.... Enjoy it! Don't try to whip it all at once and get burned out. How do you eat an elephant?.... One bite at the time! Good luck and keep us posted.
Live, laugh, love
Thanks.... Makes it a lot more more enjoyable when your chickens have a good personality! I am hearing that same theme with the Comets.... great layers, not mean, but not real friendly..... All business.... LOL.... I may end up with Rhode Island white or Barred Rock... Have a few 2 mth old Rocks...
I'm seriously considering the Golden Comets as my two young sons have shown interest in selling eggs and raising chickens.... Does anyone have experience with Cakkle's line of Comets or anyone else's? Thanks for your input
Well I've got five mature hens that I moved to a new coop and they haven't laid an egg in ten days!!!! New young rooster in with them. That may be the problem....... Twiddling my thumbs.... Ain't buy grocery sto eggs!! LOL
I'll be patient. They are fun to watch. My Big Dom hens are bullying my two pretty little Orpington. 4 hens and all my rooster does is prance around and study his reflection in the water trough! He hasn't made an effort to mate. He doesn't even crow!! I smell a chicken stew coming... Kidding...
I have a new coop with all the chickenitity luxuries. We bought at a livestock auction 1 healthy looking Dominique rooster and two Dom hens... Also two young Orpington hens.
How long before I get some delicious eggs?
