I think they're about 6-6½ weeks old. I got them from Tractor Supply. It was an assortment of Wyandotte colors, but I don't remember which ones were listed. I think Ruff is gold laced. Tuff has a lot more black and a little bit of white. But, she looks quite a bit different than the silver Laced...
The feeder opening is only 2-3 inches wide, but she doesn't have a problem finding it now. I've seen her eat everyday. The water is a heated bucket that's actually for horses, but it's really easy for them to use. I checked her keel bone, she has more meat than some of the others.
Her normal eye color is yellow. The right eye is a really dark green. She can't see out of it. I don't know about weakness on that side. Today she was easy to catch, but I distracted her while my sister came up from behind. She's a little slower, but still runs around like the other birds. She...
So far none of my other birds are showing symptoms. This one seemed to be getting better, but then her eyes got worse. They look horrible. One eye has an irregular pupil. The other was really dark, but not really gray. Now it's swollen shut. It was still open yesterday, but today she can't open...
I think Dottie is in shock. She's tired from the trauma, her pulse is weak and fast. I put a towel on her and got a heat lamp on her. She did try to fly away again. She's still breathing fine though. She kept trying to lift up her head, then it would fall off of the towels. I had to fill the box...
I just got home and found my dog trying to eat/play with the chickens. I found one (Dottie) that I thought was dead. She's still breathing. I don't think any organs are punctured. She's not gasping for air. Her crop is punctured, and food was slowly coming out. I stitched the hole closed (not...
Her stumps look good this morning. The swelling is starting to go down. Before I changed the wrap I set her down in the grass. She took off running/flying. She was really happy when I gave her some bread. I moved her crate outside again today. We had to wash her butt. It was starting to get...
Those are cool. I could put the finger cots over the wrap. They're the large size, so they would fit. I wouldn't leave them on at night. Should I keep the stumps wrapped all the times though, just with vet wrap and gauze? I plan on changing the wrap everyday until the bottom has scabbed over...
I moved the carrier out to the run. She perked up a little, but is still laying in the corner. I gave her more pain meds and changed the bandage. Her stumps look really good. The first one is already getting skin on the bottom. The second is a little bruised, but it stopped bleeding and looks...
She's in a big dog carrier. I could probably move the crate outside. I was going to cover her stumps with rubber finger covers so they wouldn't get wet or dirty. It would be safer to move the crate outside.
She won't drink either. I'll try tuna tomorrow and give her more pain meds. I have...
She hasn't eaten in hours. She doesn't seem interested in food at all. Is she stressed from losing her feet? I've also had her back in the garage for about a week. Could she just be depressed from not seeing the rest of the flock? She's still very alert. She doesn't look sick, she just won't eat.
Her feet fell off today! I went to check on her and one was off. I got the stump all wrapped up and she tried to fly away. Then, the other one fell off. I don't think it was quite ready though. It bled through the gauze and a piece of paper towel. The stumps look really good. I gave her some...
