I’m posting for a friend, please advise if you know what she should try!
We have a hen that is lethargic and is being picked on. We have her inside and she eats and drinks and poops fine. But outside she’s not moving around much. Do you have advice? We treated with giardia meds.
Thank you!
I’m wondering about the black one with white markings. We have thought pullet (hardly a colored comb at all), but she does have different feathers. Her mother looks very similar to her. She is next to our cockerel in some of the photos.
Grey is lavender Orpington /olive egger mix. This one has a black spot and a white spot of color leaking through near the tail.
Orange and silver are both dark brahama/olive egger mixes.
Are saddle feathers visible?
thanks for the review! I second the recommendation. I’ve used two different NR360’s for years and this last Maticoopx hatch out performs them. Held more eggs (though or won’t hold full captive they are really large eggs) and excellent hatch rate. 14/15 fertile eggs hatched flawlessly on days 21...
Can you candle the air sack to see if they have pipped internally? I have done this carefully and held them close to hear them cheeping at me from inside.
Thank you so much, and you are absolutely right I got a different chick in there by accident! That is an olive egger mix, I’m thinking pullet for that mismarked chick.
Chick 1: don’t know the breed, and from a different flock. Would love your thoughts on breed (I know it’s mixed) and gender.
Chicks 2 & 3: mother hen is dark brahama, rooster is olive egger (bcm/blue layer)
Chick 4: mother is lavender Orpington, olive egger rooster
Thank you!💕🐥
Thanks for your offer to take a guess! The rooster to all (except “Mystery Chick”, who has the largest comb and not from my flock) is an olive egger: copper Marans/americauna. The moms are: dark brahama, olive egger, lavender Orpington, and legbar mix (starting to get a mowhawk). Thanks!!
Each year I hatch in my classroom, and after last years’ hatch of 9 out of 9 all being boys I got a new incubator 😂 and had a 14/15 hatch rate. I kept 6, here they are at 4 weeks (adopted by a hen). Hoping for a little less crowing this year. The only one not from our flock is “C,” and I have no...
Year 2 of classroom hatch/hen adoption update:
Mom finally took them, on night 2. She was too pecky and seemed agitated on night 1 so we brought them back in the house. Last night we put a couple directly under her wing and she seemed good so we set the next ones in front one by one and they...
We're ready to try it again on the 17th! Classroom hatch is happening this week and my two broody sisters (6 years old) are the black astrolorps in my profile picture.
