    Black sex-links? Maybe? Pullets?

Both girls turned out to be pretty hens!

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

Verdict #2 -- the third one (smaller with later feathering) is also a crowing roo 🐓 🤪 I think my "barred rock pullets" were actually BSL roosters.

    Black sex-links? Maybe? Pullets?

I think she's a pullet. My three "barred rock pullets" turned out to be BSL roosters so that tipped me more in the direction of her being a BSL pullet. 🤞🏼

    Black sex-links? Maybe? Pullets?

I think they both are pullets...thank goodness because my other 4 (of six) are all roosters 🐓 🤪 Here's big legs 😉

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

Verdict #1 -- the pea comb is a crowing rooster 🐓 🤣 He's so handsome too.

4 Wk Rhode Island Reds all cockerels?

Hi, I know this is a really old thread. Just curious. Did these four all end up being cockerels? I'm running into the same thing with "straight run" from a local farm. Looking like 4-5 of my 6 are cockerels. :p

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

I'm sure this is the situation where we got ours! Being our first time, we're so curious but enjoying them no matter what. They're all very sweet and like to be held and interact so we're happy 😊 and I think we'll end up with a couple that actually lay eggs so even better lol

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

Better pictures of my *possible* BSLs haha Time will tell. Oh well, they're fun and nice (even all my boys, so far!). 🐓🐣

    Black sex-links? Maybe? Pullets?

I'm back with some pictures of two of my other chicks. The verdict on my barred chicks was 3 roos, 0 pullets 🤣😅 Background info: 4 week old barnyard mixes from RIR or Barred Rock roos and RIR, BO or Barred Rock hens (I also saw one or two white chickens with red comb there so maybe leghorn?)...

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

She is the same age and we have another one that looks just like her so hopefully that means she has a friend. I know it's important for them to be with others! Thank you for all the info and feedback. I'm so intrigued by the genetics!

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

I've been worried about that very thing (that they're all cockerels). The only barred breed she had were Plymouth Rock but I'm sure they've been crossed and crossed again so who knows 😂

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

Thank you for responding. This has been such a fun learning experience so far!

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

So this one could be a black sex link? It's hard to tell with the shadows but she has a little gold on her chest. We have two of these. And the last one is COMPLETELY different and I love *her*? coloring.

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

Thank you!! There's three different chicks, two pictures each. The pics are numbered but it doesn't show up very well on the thumbnails 😜 It sounds like I need to work on my patience and see what happens! They're pretty nice chicks so far. They sit on our laps in the evening and watch TV with...

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

@speckledhen if you have time could you give me your verdict over here on these maybe "mutt" barred rock babies. ☺️

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

I think they're just randomly bred with the roos and hens so she didn't want to make any guarantees. I imagine a lot of hers are already crossed too. I knew they probably weren't "hatchery" pure but now the mystery of it is driving me crazy 😂🤪

Plymouth Barred Rock hen or roo?

We have finally gotten 6 chicks for the first time. We picked up from a local breeder, straight run. They are 4-ish weeks old at this point. She had Barred Rock and RIR males. Barred Rock, Buff Orp and RIR females. These three barred chicks are my constant question......two pics of each. Roo or...
