Thanks, Kathy.
Do you know if the drench can be used as a pour-on, or is that just a waste? it always seems like such a struggle to give chickens anything orally (probably I just don't have the touch! Lol).
Sooo this is an old thread, but as the title suggests (and maybe I missed the answer here somewhere) does anyone know the dosage for giving chickens ivermectin sheep drench? I'm treating for scaly leg mites. Seems too drippy to use as pour-on? Anyone?
Thought I would chime in here, as I've also just had to put down a favorite hen who was very sick.
There are so many methods of "culling", and everyone will favor what they're most comfortable with. Last year I spoke with a local chicken breeder and Judge about some health issues I was having...
Day 19! Eeeep!
I've been trying to keep this as an experiment in my head, since I've not hatched before, but I can't help but to be anxious! I haven't candled since I set them with the hen, so I have no clue if they have even started laying. I did see one broken egg laying outside the...
This is an old thread, and maybe I'm missing the other "diahhrea" related threads but, anyway.... How did your bird do after your last post? I seem to have a bird in similar state, and lately getting kind of wobbly or clumsy and not jumping up to roost and looking kinda droopy. She's had...
:( aw, that sucks! I would be feeling the same Way. I was super nervous about cracking open my remaining un-hatched eggs for the same reason. ALthough my hen had left with the chicks for at least 24hrs, I still didn't want to crack open dead-in-shell chicks. Sorry for your mix up. :(
The jist of what I've read/heard from other more experienced hatchers is that mum is just fine on the chick food, and the extra protein may actually be beneficial to her. She won't be laying right away so doesn't need the extra calcium in layer feed. I've also got mt mum and her babies in a...
Just thought I would share my broody success with her 4 chicks. And the little "nursery" chick pen I cobbled together for them. They seem to be pretty happy and healthy, and momma is doing a good job so far!
Alright! So my broody left the nest with her 4 chicks, and 5 eggs were still in the nest. I candled them and here are the pics/results!
Egg 1
Egg 2
Egg3
Egg4
Egg5
Then I cracked each of them open. Eggs 1-4 pretty much looked the same- milky opaque whites and an orangey intact yolk...
My hen finally got off her nest this afternoon, so maybe a day and a half after hatching started? And despite all the warnings, nothing can quite prepare you for your first giant broody poop! Amazing. Haha! Anyway, my first broody clutch and I got 4 healthy chicks out of 9 eggs. Not super, but...
Hi, no i put fertile eggs under her all at the same time and none were added afterwards. Oooh it's hard waiting! I'm dying to know how many total hatched and what's going on under all those feathers!!! ;D
Quick question, and it's possible it's already been answered in the thousands of posts on this thread already.... Lol! Too much sifting!
Does anyone know about how long a hen will stay on her nest after hatching? Mine hasn't got up to do her "business" (like a week!), several chicks have...
Sorry, here's the first pic. Not sure why it didn't load before! The day before hatch I cut down the front of the box and added shavings up to it so nobody fell out.

First pic is my broody in her trance in the "new" nest. I moved her at night after moving the eggs first. I carefully pulled all the eggs out from under her and candled them at the same time (day 10) and put them right away into the new nest box. Then I moved the nest box to the dog...
