The 4 that hatched today with assistance are weak and small but I think they might make it. There is one more left in the incubator that is pretty much out of the egg but too weak to stand up. I gave it a watery mixture of yolk and molasses a few times. We will see how they are all doing...
Thanks! I'm at work till 7:30pm I left them a small amount of yolk a very little water, and sprinkled chick food around because they seemed to be eating that. I helped unzip two more and then had to leave. There is a third trying to hatch too. I think they will all be very weak.
Do you think I...
I zipped just the shell, not the membrane, around a few that looked ready. One hatched! Two or three more are moving. They will probably be pretty weak, I'll give them egg yoke and water. I don't have electrolytes and can't get to the store today.
Sorry, it was the right place to post.
I am not a pro but two years ago I got 3 Azure chickens. They are small, all white, and lay big blue eggs all through the winter and we wanted more. I hatched a Welsummer rooster last summer so we hatched some of the Azuer/Welsummer eggs this spring. Three...
Thank you! I made holes where their heads were. I'll put some coconut oil on them. two were moving but the membrane is white. I'm worried it is too hard. I'll put coconut oil on them now. Thanks!
Update: Rocky has 6 chicks, I put the one Wellsummer that hatched under her at 3 am and she accepted it. The rest of the eggs are in the incubator, some of the m had piped and were exposed to less humid air as they sat in the nest without a hen and as I carried them to the incubator. I made the...
One of the Welsummer eggs hatched in the incubator. There is another Wellsummer and 4 either cream legbars or Azures left in the incubator. I'm getting ready for bed. I guess that is all I can do for now. Wait till morning.
Hatch day was yesterday evening. My guess is they internally pipped last night. When I get home at 8pm, should I try and open the air pocket of the egg to see if they are still alive? I don't want them to suffocate. What should I do? They internally pipped so long ago? The other hen hatched her...
UPDATE: I'm at work. When my husband reported the eggs were missing this morning, I asked him to search for the eggs or chicks in the coop and under the hay. He said they were all gone. So, just now, at 3:30, he went out again and there were 6 eggs under Zeus! So I asked him to find the other...
I would try and keep them separate if you can. I open up my brooder area a week or two after the chicks hatch. Mine free-range and there is lots of room for them to roam and be away from the rest of the flock. They all seem to work it out.
You also have the option of putting a few of the eggs...
