I am using coir in my brooder....I have used it for reptiles, and I also use it for mice. I find it to have better odor control and absorbancy than ANYTHING else I have ever used for anything........mice are big waste producers, even when not crowded...and I've tried carefresh, pelleted bedding...
Has anyone tried coir in their coop....did you like it? how did it perform?
Would this be considered stealing a thread? I don't to upset anyone, just curious
I wonder if you could use coir instead. It's totally renewable, super cheap, and has many of the same qualities as peat moss--absorbent, light weight, etc. It's basically the shredded up hair from coconuts, and a lot of nurseries and hardware stores sell it.
This stuff sounds cool...could...
He supports every crazy idea and plan of mine and knows exactly what to say to make me feel beautiful about myself no matter how crazy I'm looking (or dressed!)
I haven't named most of my 20 chicks because I'm not quite sure of genders yet, so I'm also trying to pick names that will easily be converted into boy names if needed

My exotic extra chick in definitly a batam, I ordered all batams and it's the same size as everyone else, and even smaller than my silkies...I'm new to chickens and I don't know my breeds very well...she (or he) has black legs/feet and black beak, and earmuffs like my araucanas, she's totally...
One of my partridge silkies started out really yellow, but now its the same color as the other. Colors can really vary.

Thanks so much! That helps a lot:D
I ordered from them and waited so impatiently and they called me to switch some chick breeds around and told me they would send chicks on 5/27 and the same day I got an email confirmation with the invoice attached...all the chicks got here happy and alive, plus a few unexpected extras ...they...
In the pic she is kinda washed out....and she's only been getting more and more golden while the rest are lightening up...I know she doesn't really contrast in the picture, but in real life it's a big difference
We used a large steralite container thingy and newspaper with paper towels on top as bedding...we have 21 banty chicks in it
Testing before the chicks came in (we later decided not to use the fluff as bedding because they kept eating it instead of the food)

Nap time....awwwww
I ordered 15 chicks from cackle hatchery and at first I didn't want silkies but I couldn't get any sebrights so I got 5 white silkies instead and I love them!! I think that one of them might be a buff silkie, she's more golden yellow than the rest..
One of my little silkies was TERRIFIED of me...
No not irritation...there is like a red pimple sized little bump thingy stick a bit out of their butts that is definitly part of them...it really reminded me of when my leopard gecko had a prolapse.....
I have 22 bantam week old chicks, they are on news paper with paper towels on top for nonslip-ness and they've been eating chick starter...and a silkie chick and a Silver Sebright seems to have a prolapse?
It looks like a tiny bit of their butt is inside out, and it was poopy so I cleaned their...
Sounds like she got "water-logged". Feel of her crop and see if it is large and round and fluid filled. If she drank too much too quickly, this can happen very easily. Bubbles from the throat is a sheer sign of this, as the water is trying to come back up the throat from the crop and it coats...
