From what i have been able to read, thus far.... Our Turkey will hatch the chicken eggs, we do not have a Tom, so the turkey eggs are all for breakfast. I am wondering, if when the chickens eggs hatch, will the Turkey take care of and raise the baby chickens?
i had my baby chickens (& 3 turkeys) move into coop at about 5 weeks, but I kept a fence between them and the older chickens for about 2.5weeks. Figured they would get used to seeing and hearing each other. Then i removed the divider and they have been just fine. The older chickens stay...
just replaced the heating lamp with an electric hen - now the lonely turkey has left the stuffed animal and now all the chickens and turkeys cuddle together under the heater (which doesnt burn little fingers and/or risk start house on fire) ! not only do they all sleep through the night...
yes she is! We got the 3 really hoping for 2 females and a male, so they can start their own little flock next year! It is funny though that the other 2 turkeys bonded with the chickens. One paired up with the tiny little Silkie and the other one bonded with one of the 2 lavender Orpingtons...
sorry should of done this right away - sorry!!! not best pics and apologize for delay - got to say we all slept well since the elephant brought us peace and quiet!
LOL!!! the stuffed animal trick worked!!! place an old stuffed elephant in the pen with the chickens and turkeys - and almost immediately the chirping stopped as the liitle turkey snuggled in and found peace with the little green elephant!
Ha we are going to try the stuffed animal! little white midget turkey going nutty - we got 3 baby turkeys and 4 chickens all same age (bout 2 weeks) and just one of the little turkeys just running a-muck and chirping like crazy! lol so hope it works! will let you know!
well been happy with my solar lights, all my chickens are back to laying! Now the lack of having a timer for the solar lights, I had to attach the solar panel in between two trees, so it only collects the solar energy for a couple hours in the morning. They kick on as soon as it gets dark...
have you seen the meat of white silkies?? i know with veggies, the darker the more vitamins & minerals...I ordered one and after researching some, I have ordered a few more!
if you compost or have read up on it, chicken poop is a green when it comes to your pile. I dont make anything elaborate....Actually recently my 2.5yr old helped me expand our composting area. I found a fairly level area (I live in mountains, so I am limited) dug a small trench outlining my...
check any garden center, they will have battery operated ones that do both - designed for green houses so pretty durable...cant think of the name...they should have a selection.
was going to do the autopsy, but....the snow came, with the cold...so with the predators and the unkown reason behind her death, we opted for cremation.. other ladies are doing well...all but the iowa blue hate the snow - i found this surprising for she is the smallest and least fluffy of the...
so far all other ladies fine! my daughter wants an autopsy....idk about that after seeing the cost, thinking of doing myself - to see if we can find anything, but honestly probably waste of time since i really hadnt a clue what to look for....idk....i am very sad though she was by FAR the...
yeah not sure what happened to her obvious signs...but she passed away just about 1/2 hr ago. she had moved about a foot from where she slept last night and that was it...
she is ten months. have seen no signs of anything wrong with her. she had made a little nest under the coop....i need to go back and look for an egg, they had pulled alot of straw out of the coop, so she had a nice little nest where she was sleeping.....kinda hoping she is just a super hard...
okay reaching out to ya! this evening I found my lavender orpington sleeping under the coop and it is gonna get very cold tonight. so i picked her up and got a little annoyed squak out of her. I put her in the coop door. I then went into the coop using "my" door to collect eggs and there she...
