Pycheon hen. Singular. She needs friends and a husband.

I have a bonded pair of Seramas that I would be willing to rehome to you for free if I am sure they're going to a good home. Seramas are an awesome breed. They're smaller than bantams, very hard and very friendly. Some of my girls are over 12 years old and still laying The roo is a year old...

Any one seen this Breed of Bantam before? Possibly a cross? Feathered legs?

Silky Serama cross? Except that Silkies have blue ears. Any extra toes?

    All beetles, no mealworms. WHY?

I am having the same problem... lots and lots of beetles, no mealworms. I keep them in the house and ensure they don't get cold. They are in oats, and I give them fruit, carrots and/or potatoes for food and moisture. I take out the old fruit and vegetables every few days to keep the bedding...

How long are hens typically fertile after rooster is removed?

This doesn't really answer your question, but its an interesting story... I have a friend who put a dozen refrigerated eggs that she bought from the grocery store into a brand new incubator for a "trial run". 2 of those eggs actually hatched! It was impossible for any of us to figure out the...

Ideas for non-slip material for lockdown

I was wondering about their nails getting caught... A shop towel. Like the ones that come in a pack, and are used to wipe grease and stuff? I will go see if we have any. What about cutting up an old shiirt (without buttons, obviously)

Hatched chicks and hatching eggs during lockdown

This question has probably been posted before, but... During lockdown, when some of my chicklets have hatched, they kick around the not-yet-hatched eggs. I don't want to open the incubator, obviously, but won't it cause problems for the eggs to be rolled around while they are trying to hatch?

Ideas for non-slip material for lockdown

HELP! Could y'all give me ideas for a non slip material to put down before lockdown? I just realized i counted wrong, and need to start lockdown now. But... it's Christmas. Not much open tonight. Will a towel work? Will that mess up the humidity? Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks.

    Coop floor and rats

Is there any possibility that they could drop some of the poison on the way to feeding their young? And my chickens could find the dropped poison? I hope that doesn't sound like a stupid question...

    Coop floor and rats

I have tried everything imaginably possible, while still being careful of the safety of my cats and chickens. I have gotten some really good ideas from NYC forums. Bur I live near some open fields. Also, my sweet but slightly misguided neighbor puts bowls of scraps out to feed the rats...

    A Brinsea Experience

Thank you a lot for your information. Do I change the percentage of rh I am trying to keep it at all the way up to the shutdown phase? I know I will have to adjust the amount if water it will take to keep it at that percent as the eggs' needs change

    Coop floor and rats

I have 2 coops. I got some great ideas from BYC about things to consider and things to do beforehand. I dug down 6 inches and put down hardware cloth. Put dirt over it. Put up a chain link dog kennel. Covered it with chicken wire. Covered that with hardware cloth. Expensive, but I felt pretty...

Humidity too high with new Binsea Ovation

You are a genius; you were EXACTLY right... No water for at least 3 weeks. Water emptied out. All is well. Just hoping the first 3 days of drowning my eggs in 75% water didn't hurt my eggs. We will see. Thanks again

    A Brinsea Experience

Could someone explain what it means on the digital display for RH when it says 20% EX only. Mine is the Ovation Advance 28. NOT the EX

Humidity too high with new Binsea Ovation

Yes. I realize I was looking at the wrong part of the display. But... when I went to "the rh" it said 20% EX Only. I don't have an EX. Change it to 40%, or trust the default it came set with?

Humidity too high with new Binsea Ovation

I think I was looking at the wrong display. Now I have scrolled to rh. It says okay, but when I open it, it says 20% EX only. It is not an ex, though. Should I adjust it to 40%? I have searched all the literature, and I am still baffled. No response from Brinsea. Any ideas? Should I leave it...

Humidity too high with new Binsea Ovation

I just purchased a Brinsea Ovation 28. I set it up, using the default setting. On the digital displays. Temperature is fine, but humidity shows 75. They both say okay. But 75 is high, isn't it? I tried opening that thing up more, which is supposed to help, but it hasn't. And they are Ayami...
