    Peahen with possible broken leg

So vet diagnosed an actual broken leg (showed me on the X-ray) and said she could fix with surgery. I’d have to keep her crated 4-6 weeks until she’s healed. She said she could also put a cast on it but it may not work and then surgery wouldn’t be an option. Does this sound like a normal course...

    Peahen with possible broken leg

I’m actually at the vet’s office with her now. Hopefully the vet will be experienced enough to know. I don’t want to put her down unnecessarily

    Peahen with possible broken leg

So I’m most likely going to have to put her down so she’s not suffering?

    Peahen with possible broken leg

Thanks for the information. I think maybe it’s dislocated instead of broken…I don’t see a break anywhere in the leg. Have you had one recover from that issue?

    Hens not sitting on eggs

I have a large pen with three hens and two males. The hens have been laying eggs for a few weeks now, but none of them are actually laying on them. The eggs are all over the place instead of in groups. Should I remove the eggs?

    Best commercial feed for peafowl

I’ve tried different feeds for my peafowl and can’t settle on one I think is best. I’ve tried using Purina Flock Raiser and mixing Turkey Starter with it for more protein, and I’ve also used Naturewise Meatbird by itself since it has 22% protein. Other than higher protein, what else should I be...

    3 week old gasping chick

I felt their crops and they all feel the same. None feel like they are bulging. I’ve added grit even though they have been on puppy pads the entire time, not shavings, and have only had access to crumbles. I gave it a few drops of egg yolk thinned with water water and it seemed to pep up and...

    3 week old gasping chick

This is the first time I’ve ever had chicks. We are doing it through 4 H Chick Chain. I’m not sure what it’s crop should even feel like. It doesn’t make any noise at all and I haven’t observed it poop since discovering the problem today. But in general, there is no dry poop. There has been some...

    3 week old gasping chick

Help! One of my 4 chicks seems to be in distress. They are all 3 weeks old and have been in a rabbit cage together the entire time I’ve had them. It sticks its neck up and opens its beak like it is gasping. It doesn’t make noise when it does it and wasn’t doing this yesterday. I change bedding...

Need help with ID of this peachick

Beautiful! Thanks for the info. I stated that wrong in my first post. I think I should have said a dark pied instead of dark “silver” pied. Here is a picture of the other chick. I also think this is a hen. Would she be considered a black shoulder? Also, could you please share how you are able to...

Need help with ID of this peachick

I have a pair of silver pied peafowl that I got a little over a year ago, and I know that there are 3 possibilities for chicks. The hen hatched her first babies in June. I have one solid white, one silver pied (I think) and this one pictured below. Is this what a dark silver pied looks like...
