Still hoping it's just too early. My other chick is a RIR- same age. Has the comb too but no wattle and comb is still yellow, and she's all feathered out. Thanks!
5 week old Bantam Cochin- supposed to be a girl, but the slow feathering and pink wattle/comb base is telling me roo. Is there still a chance for a pullet? Thanks!
Oh I hope I don't have another roo! She was supposed to be sexed from the hatchery, and a replacement for the 3 roos I just rehomed. She is eating and active, though very skittish. She gets that pasty butt every morning too. She is very tiny- so maybe I did get a bantam. Thank u
I got her from feed store last week- they get their chicks from Privett Hatchery. She's about 1 1/2 week old, but still all fuzz. My RIR chick is double her size and has the feathers already (same age). Is this just a slow developer? Is there anything I can do? Thanks!
Oh wow I just googled it and looks like that's her! Thanks everyone! I'm happy with a cochin! Can't wait to see how she turns out- my BCM had same colors and quickly turned black. Thank u!
I replaced my roos with new babies. There was a bin of mixed chicks at Ace that came from Privette Hatchery. I thought it was some type of Maran b/c of the feathered feet, but Ace said they didn't order black marans. What breed is she? I'm just hoping for dark brown eggs. .
I thought so too Michael. I guess they were too young at 9 wks to tell when I tried to return to the breeder. It's been a guessing game! But I did have an inkling all along both were boys. Thank u!
Chickens are now 3 months old- I heard crowing today but not sure from which one. Breeder thought these were girls bc they were small at 10 weeks old. Last post here BYC thought white OE was a girl at 9 wks. Everyone said BCM was a roo. BCM has huge red comb but breeder said her hens had big...
Hmm...I just googled black marans and he certainly looks like one. I got him from a local breeder and she only has black copper marans and the white marans in her breeding program (supposedly), but I've been questioning it too b/c there should be some copper on neck by now. I know BCM hens...
I posted before and everyone agreed (including myself) that my Cookie was a roo at 9 wks old b/c of large comb and wattle. Well now she is about 11 weeks old, and still has large comb but it's more on the yellow side. She also doesn't have any Red/copper patches on her wings, just a few on chest...
Yes, he was only a few days old (1 week the most) when I got him/her from breeder- just a tiny yellow fuzzball. He grew fast, but didn't get feathers in until almost a month! Here's a 6 wk pic . No kidding on the slow developer! That's why I'm thinking he's just a late bloomer roo lol! I guess...
I posted pics on this Olive Egger before and they said it was a pullet based on small comb. I wanna believe she's a girl, but I see roo features too, so I'm totally confused. He was the biggest (though now I learned OE are usually bigger), very slow to feather, he fights with the other roo and...
My 9.5 week Americauna looks tiny like that too! She's just now losing her fuzz and getting feathers in! I thought something was wrong with her, but she's finally catching up. Mine has no comb or wattle yet, so I'm guessing she is a girl.
. This makes me so happy! I really thought she was a roo by the size and large legs and chest bumping with the darker chickens. She fights with the Isbar to be the leader- always trying to herd them. Well u guys definitely made my day! Thank u!
