So I gave my 6 girls a pea sized dollop of Safeguard horse paste. Needless to say, I have a lot left! Can I save this to use 8 weeks from now and continue until expiration?
I have never heard of raccoons opening windows to get inside a house. That is very scary. I am so sorry you had to go thru this nightmare. I always worry about what may be going on in my outdoor coop at night but to have your house invaded is just horrifying. You did nothing wrong, please do...
Awww, poor thing tried to take cover and got stalked. I have read the Cooper's hawks will do this, so providing hiding places will do no good. I have also read that they will hide and wait in a tree for the coast to be clear to hunt. I do not let my girls out of their covered run anymore...
So many hawk attacks lately! They seem to be getting more and more aggressive with little fear of humans. So sorry for your loss and having to find such a horrible sight. It makes me very worried that even a fully enclosed chicken tractor isn't enough to protect chickens from hawks.
Thanks, I feel a bit better. I have covered the run in chicken wire, made sure all seams are closed tight, but was worried about the 2 inch x 4 inch fencing. I cant imagine a hawk would be able to squeeze through, but it would be awful if it did!
OMG, it was shredding the netting? Can you tell me what kind of netting you are using and how was it shredding it? I thought my netting would keep the girls safe!
Aww, so sorry! I can't imagine finding that kind of carnage. When you are ready, please let us know how the predator got into the coop. It helps others make sure they don't have a way for predator to get in.
OMG, that is so scary! I thought I safe covering an area with netting. That is unbelievable that it would hunt around for a loose place and creep in! I thought the visual of the netting would be enough! My girls are going to have to stay in the secure run for awhile. Yikes!
That is why I have decided to limit freeranging to a small area that I can cover with netting. I too thought that lots bushes and hiding places would do the trick, but have learned here that the smaller hawks will just march right into the bushes after them. I can't believe that it actually...
Yikes, I have bantam hens. What kind of netting will keep them out? I have a secure run, but would like to cover a little area so they can free range a bit. Something like this?
