So I got a mystic onyx from bomgaars a few months ago and while I was out checking on some chicks I placed with some broody hens, Miss Phoenix decided to show off her crow?? I read hens will crow too but now I’m curious about ya’ll opinions - hen or roo? 13 week old mystic onxy

    Any guesses on breed?

I’m not going to bother making a new post for the same chickens for the same question lol I have some concerns about Phoenix the Mystic Onyx. 13 weeks now and I was out checking on two broody girls that got chicks last night, (they’re doing great so far), and suddenly I hear crowing??Imagine...

    Any guesses on breed?

Little update, the red chick seems to be a New Hampshire red based on how fast she’s developing her feathers, thoughts? She’s 2 weeks old now

    Any guesses on breed?

I will say the other chicks in the bin were almost a shade darker than the orange one I got, there was one other that was similarly pale in comparison. It’ll be interesting to see how they grow!

    Any guesses on breed?

Just picked these up from Bomgaars (like Tractor Supply). Labeled as “Hatchery Choice Layers”. They’re brand new babies so I don’t know if it’s too early to get a good read but I’m down for some guesses! Pictures are as good as I could get without holding them lol jumpy things. Orange is pretty...

First eggs!! But not where they should be…

I’m so excited! I got two eggs, first eggs ever and I’m so excited! However they were laid in the run, not the lay box. I’m not sure if that’s normal for a first lay to be randomly laid somewhere or if I should be looking closer at my lay box. Is it normal for the first eggs to be laid in the...

    Introducing a roo

I’m not sure if this is where I should put this but here it is! Theres someone local giving away roosters (they have a few different breeds) and I was thinking of contacting them about possible getting a black austraorp. I have 4 chickens; 2 chocolate orpingtons (15 weeks) and 2 black...

Guess the sex: Australorps and Chocolate Orpingtons!

Missed a week but that’s life! Chickens are doing super good and actually starting to not freak out when I go out to their run lol Dinner clearly rules the rooster but she’s sweet. Lunch and Dinner, chocolate Orpington: 15 weeks Cluckles and Cookie, black austrorps: 11 weeks

Guess the sex: Australorps and Chocolate Orpingtons!

Another week, another update! It’s kinda fun to see just how much chickens change in such a short time! 13 weeks for the chocolate Orpington; Dinner and Lunch 9 weeks for the black austraorps; Cookie and Cluckles Cluckles is the most skiddish, I’m not sure why. Will not come near me at all...

Guess the sex: Australorps and Chocolate Orpingtons!

I thought I’d post some updated photos! Mostly to keep track of progress but also for comparing as they get older. I’m actually thinking I have 4 hens… Dinner and Lunch seem to be leveling out similarly.

Refurbished coop - what do I need?

I appreciate the tips! However, the window has glass and has a crank that opens and closes it, it also only opens into the fully enclosed run, and the wire has been more secured (this was an old picture as I mentioned in my post 🙂). This window opens almost fully and closes completely. The heat...
