    Guinea Hens

We were gifted a guinea hen along with 4 chickens. I believe she was raised with 5 chickens so she has always been part of a flock. When we brought this flock home we enclosed them in a roofed pen for several days. After than they free ranged together. We then introduced them to our bigger...

Review by '' on item 'Sicilian Buttercup'

We adopted an adult SB this past summer. She is a good egg layer, although her eggs are super long and slimmer than most. They look like a bullet! She is not a cuddley chicken, nor is she aggressive towards humans. I have caught her pulling feathers from her "sister's" tail and eating it but...

    Fishy Eggs

We started getting random fishy-flavored eggs a couple months ago. They don't smell fishy but they sure taste like fish! They are disgusting. We read that there is nothing wrong with the eggs and that they may be extra high in Omega 3. . .but we can't stomach them! We cant figure out which...

    yolk sticking to shell

I realize this is an older post but we just started having the same problem. There doesn't seem to be anything "wrong" with the egg. . .no odor, beautiful color. . .but we have been tossing them just to be on the safe side. I do think it is probably from the eggs setting in the carton too long.

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

On October 31 we set 9 eggs. We candled the eggs 2 nights ago and 6 of the 9 are fertile and progressing. We were able to see the veins, eye, and some movement! We're really looking forward to our hatch!

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

On October 31 we lost 1 Silkie hen and 1 Speckled Sussex rooster to a predator. We were very upset - this is our first loss to a predator and we've had chickens for over a year. As part of our grieving process (at least that's what I'm claiming), I decided to set 9 eggs. Luckily we have...

Review by '' on item 'Sussex'

As a first time chicken owner I did my research and chose the Speckled Sussex. I have never regretted my choice! I absolutely LOVE this breed. The hens are super friendly. They will talk to you but are not noisy. If it weren't for our 2 roosters you would never know we had any chickens...

New Baby Chick w/2 Bulging, Swollen Eyes...PICS included

We seem to have something similar happening. One of our chicks (hatched 3 days ago) does not open her eyes. Occasionally she will open them slightly but they look milky, like a cataract. She walks around like a drunk until she locates the corner. She then backs into the corner and sleeps...

    Is this a leghorn?

Her previous owner thought that she was laying an egg every so often (like once a month) in the woods around her house.

    Is this a leghorn?

I've had her for over a month now. She seems to be eating and drinking like the other 2 hens. She didn't lay for her previous owner either.

    Is this a leghorn?

I have an approximately 2 year old chicken. Her previous owner was told she was a leghorn. She is white with yellow legs and an orange comb and wattle. She is smaller than my 2 speckled sussex hens and does not lay eggs.

    Hello from eastern PA!

My family and I made the decision to become chicken owners several months ago. After doing some research I decided that I really wanted some Speckled Sussex hens. We began building our own coop, mostly from pallets and wood scraps. Before we were finished with the coop I located a Speckled...
