    Guineas to the rescue!

Something has been eating our koi in our pond and we could not find out what. Today our guineas alerted us to a problem at the pond. A mink! It is no longer a problem at the pond. Our guineas surrounded it and it was dispatched.

    Free Ranging Guineas

I do not know why anyone would go through the trouble of getting keets, raising them to be old enough to go outside and then send them off to be killed? This may sound harsh but that is what will happen if you “just” let them live in the woods. Guineas are almost blind at night and they will get...

    Dead Guinea, need help

I have had guinea's fly into walls, break their neck on the perch and kill them selves falling from a tree branch and hitting other branches on the way down. Not the brightest birds in the world. Could yours have just broke its neck inside the coop?

need help finding how many guinea's to get for my farm

Most of the major hatcheries sell them. I started out with a 12 pack of assorted keets. I now have 35 guineas (they hatch out some for me every year). If you have chickens you should really have 10 or more. With fewer they will sometimes fight with the chickens. With more they just fight...

    aggresive guinea?

You need more guineas! At least 10 so they will not bother other fowl. With that many they will fight among themselves and not go after the chickens. Mine never go after my chickens or ducks, they are too busy going after each other .

Anyone loosing guineas to the cold?

I have kept mine in their coop when the weather gets really cold (-10F). Switch out the water a couple of times and so far have not lost any to the cold. The coop is pretty tight with no drafts. With all the Guinea inside I think their combined body heat keeps the coop warmer then the outside...

    Hi I'm a new member

If she is laying in the coop leave them in there. She will continue to lay them in the coop where you know where she is at. They usually go broody after they have a clutch of 30-40 eggs. So if you do not want more guinea take some away and only leave 10 or so at all times. If you want more...

Need advise ASAP!!! Losing a guinea a night to something!

Somehow, someway get them in a coop. If you have to use a net to catch them or bribe them with treats, they have to go in a coop at night. Once they are in a coop keep them inside of it for a least 6 WEEKS. Only after 6 weeks let some of them out and make sure they come back to be with...

How Do I tame a guinea?

Lots of treats when they are young. Mine like lettuce, thawed frozen peas and corn (do not use canned as there is too much salt), cut up grapes or cherry tomatoes and unsalted peanuts (when younger take them out of the shell, when older they love to crack the shell and take the nut for...

What's the least amount of guinea fowl I can have?

If you do not have at least 10 they will eventually fight with the chickens. This can get pretty mean with them and it is not pretty. May not happen the first year, but it will happen. Guineas are not chickens!

Training them to roost in a coop?

Guinea should be kept in the coop for 4-6 weeks before you first let them free range. By keeping them in this long they "know" were to go come dusk. Also, you should use thawed, frozen corn for treats. Canned corn contains a lot of salt that can kill your birds. Mine also love unsalted...

Training them to roost in a coop?

Do they go in the coop at night? If so, no problem. Mine will stay out in the rain or snow and will not go back in the coop until dusk. They can be soaking wet or covered with snow and it does not bother them. They go in at night and in the morning they are dried off and ready to go our...

How cold is too cold for Guineas?

I also live in southwestern PA and mine do fine in the winter. They will go out in the snow and it does not bother them. They go into an unheated coop at night and have water available at all time. During the day they can go down to our pond (it comes from an underground spring and does not...

My 26 New Babies Have Arrived!!

In most states it is legal to kill dogs that are terrorizing your livestock. Just make sure you bury them and shut up. No reason to give your neighbors a reason to be mad at you. Good luck and sorry for your loss.

12-week old guinea flew the coop

Freeze? Probably not. Eaten? If you have owls or coons there is a good chance (guinea are almost blind in the dark). Can you see the guinea in the tree? If so try throwing something at it to get it down (sticks). Can you reach it with a long pole? Once down lock it up again with the others...

    Very sad

Sounds like a coon. Get a live cage trap (Tractors Supply, Gander Mountain, Cabela's)) and bait it with a small can of cat food, slice of bread with peanut butter on it, sardines or something smelly. Place the trap out at night. You should get it pretty quickly. Do this every night until...

9 week old guinea keets ready to be released

Now that the keets are in the main coop is there anyway you can keep them locked in there with mom and let the adults out only during the day? I have a screen door on my coop and when new ones are hatched out they are locked in the coop during the day with the mom. The screen door lets them...

A Treat in Question for My Pearl Grey Guineas Keets.

If your feeding 4 week old keets these treats make sure they have access to grit. I use chick grit that you can buy at a feed store or Tractors Supply.
