Splash and White Varieties with Lighter Eyes

Have you bred any birds with the lighter eyes? If so, did the offspring have dark or light colored eyes? I would imagine if bred to a dark bird the eyes would be dark. But would be afraid that it might start popping up later. This would suggest that it is recessive. Maybe like an albino trait...

Splash and White Varieties with Lighter Eyes

This is another photo of him. I don't have a black langshan to cross with him to know for sure if he is actually recessive yet.

Splash and White Varieties with Lighter Eyes

I believe this is a good question I have asked myself. Trying to post a photo here to show what I think is what's going on with this langshan. He is a splash or possibly recessive white from a blue x blue pairing. Hard to see the eye color but definitely lighter brown than my other langshan. I...

Help! whatever is eating my chicken eggs took 5 wooden ones!

My guess would be snake. I had one eat a ceramic egg that was dirty and had an x marked on it. A few days later I found it in the shed where no large animal could go. The egg was clean. I always thought it would kill them. But I guess it just coughed it up. It was still kinda wet. It did stop...

    Langshan Thread!!!

Sort of like a flop. But the comb is not large enough at this stage to flop like a leghorn. Just slightly curved in the middle. Will try and post a photo when not posting from my phone.

    Langshan Thread!!!

I am new to the Langshan breed and was wondering about combs as they are growing out. Some of my pullets have a curved comb and I wonder if they will straighten out with time as I have heard they are slow maturing. They are about 4 months old now. Also is this a heredity issue?

    Buckeye Breed Thread

Why would anyone want to make a 'laying line' out of a dual purpose breed? Isn't that what the hatcheries do to sell more chicks? But hey, if he can get $10 a chick at least he makes them sound 'special'

    Buckeye Breed Thread

The wattles and comb of this cockerel seem excessively large and the feathering seems somewhat mottled for a buckeye. Although some of the pullets in the following posts look like decent birds. Ma y have just been one chick that was a cross breed.

blue tarps for roofing on tractors

This is what I ended up doing to the tractor. The panels are hinged and it worked out pretty well. Although It did get quite hot. I added some 50% shade cloth to one side and that helped. Its an 8'x8' tractor. There are a few more photos in my profile photos under tractor.

    Buckeye Breed Thread

I would not judge a buckeye by eye color at an early age. The orange eyes that the breed is known for is not noticeable at a young age. Also feather color changes A LOT during the first year. I've had young birds with white flight feathers that grew out of them by 6 months. Size is what I would...

blue tarps for roofing on tractors

I couldn't find the reflective tarps at lowes. But I have a relatively new regular blue one I cut and nailed to panels tightly around the borders with those plastic washer type nails. Im thinking it may get hot and I have some tar paper I might add under the tarps. Im going to finish up on the...

blue tarps for roofing on tractors

Has anyone used tarps for roofing on tractors? I know they do not last forever but are lightweight and relatively cheap compared to other roofing materials. My real question is will they be too hot in direct sun on a 90 degree day to use? What about predators? Do you use hardware cloth...

    Killer Coon HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trap and dispose. Then trap again and again. They are fixated on your birds and will have to be dealt with. Then consider electric fencing/netting.

    Chicken Tractor

Thanks for the response! Kinda what I was thinking. I have 8 LF that I want to make a tractor for. I like your tractor. But I was thinking of making one 8'x6' or a Salatin style 8x8. Im going to rip some 2x4's in half and hopefully be able to use skids instead of wheels to move it around. Im...
