Just Completed 1st Slaughter Day -- Now I have questions!

I bought some Cornish X back in July, and for some reason it took them foreverrrrrr to be ready for slaughter. Anyhow, I just finished them up a couple of days ago, and now I am full of questions. I've read a lot of other posts of course, and did a lot of research, but I would really like some...

What else can I do for coccidiosis in my brooder?

I think that I read somewhere that you shouldn't give electrolytes with the corid. Research this as I'm not somewhere that I can. I am quite sure that I read the reasoning for this is because you are trying to starve the cocci, and the electrolytes actually feeds them?

How many of you FULLY Free Range your Cornish X Meaties? Tractors do not count.

Ugh so my Cornish X are well over 8 weeks now, and still really small. Is this common with free ranging? I expected it to take them quite a while longer, but these things draw in the predators like no other, and they randomly drop dead. Am I doing something wrong?

Hahah you will -- except for feed cost! Feed at least sort of limits my zoo size.

Cocci Vaccine - CocciVac -- Is it effective?

Thanks everyone for the input. I was reading some articles from organic producers. Apparently it is okay for them to use the cocci vaccine, but not medicated food. This is why I was so interested in it. I still may choose to vaccinate for cocci just to try it out, but I'm not sure yet. I think...

    Anyone here like reptiles?

haha yes I have my own house, but when I was younger I was constantly trying to talk my parents into all kinds of animals. Now I have a husband that is just as bad as me. It is weird because I have a 3 year old son so I actually have lizards (and a dog) that is older than my child. lol I'm...

    HAWK

All of my fox attacks have been between 9 am and noon. When I finally saw them the other day it was around 10:30 in the morning -- in broad daylight. And then the baby foxes that I've had feeding recently don't eat the entire thing. The large foxes just take the entire chicken with them. These...

Best incubator for Peafowl eggs under $500

I actually was just looking around byc and found this forum. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/605301/brinsea-incubator-opinions-please There is a quote on there from SD peafowl that said the following: "I have the Brinsea Octagon Eco 20 and it works good for peafowl eggs. I had a 100%...

    Anyone here like reptiles?

We have a reptile zoo. lol We have 5 leopard geckos. 2 of them are about 5 years old. We have 1 bearded dragon. We have 3 crested geckos (these are a more recent addition, and probably my favorite reptile to date). We have 2 dumpy frogs. (there are my second fave). And we have 3...

44 Eggs Set Today on Homemade Fridge Incubator

I want to follow this so that I can see how it goes. My husband is in school for mechanical engineering, and I told him to talk one of his teachers into letting him make one of these for a project so that I can have it at home. I figure he can somehow make it relate to thermodynamics and...

Day 24! No sign on hatching

Is the humidity knocked up high enough? Maybe it could be an issue with that? At some point I would think that you would want to candle them so that you can tell what they are doing in there. Day 24 is quite a bit late, but I did just have a broody have chicks hatch on day 22.

Best incubator for Peafowl eggs under $500

Oh and I missed this on my first post, but I just hatched my first batch of chicken eggs in the brinsea. It was totally full, and I'm not very experienced. I had 100% hatch rate on chicken eggs.

Best incubator for Peafowl eggs under $500

I bought a brinsea eco octagon 20. I bought it for chicken eggs, but in the manual it mentions peafowl, parrot eggs, etc. I have read about people successfully using brinsea incubators for really expensive birds, so that may be something to try.

    HAWK

A fox kept attacking my free range girls (and now the fox has babies and the whole family is attacking). At first I noticed that there were some feathers and the entire birds were missing, but when the babies started feeding they'd just rip out the stomach and eat some of the neck. I literally...

Coryza Vaccine -- Does it make recipients a carrier?

Hello, Some of my flock are carriers of coryza. I thought that it was MG because it comes along with the wild turkeys that keep showing up, but I've recently confirmed it isn't MG. After research I found a vaccine for coryza. I purchased it off the internet, and gave it to all my youngster...
