Thanks for the reply. Yes my mistake the long board in the photo is a 2x3 not a 2x4. I did indeed router the edges smooth. The 2x3 is resting on the 2x2 on and they seem to prefer staying on the 2x2 and not on the 2x3..... my thought is they like to be as far away from the door and looking at...

    Roost remodel *Pictures attached*

Hello everyone, I got my four hens about a week ago and I'm currently experimenting with different roost bar setups. So far, only two of them seem to be using the bar, and they prefer perching in the corner on the 2x2(3feet long) rather than the longer 2x4(6feetlong) I'm considering removing...

Yes I will be adding more of those horizontal vents stright across the front of the coop in the run area like you mention. The window is not very big but I think it will do the trick. I will be monitoring the interior coop temperature and humidity throughout the summer

We are mainly 5 and 2 5 and 2 years old. I guess we are looking for a good egg laying chicken primarily but a non aggressive breed If that's possible.

Trimmed out the nesting box opening and lowered the roosting bars. 🤞 Will find out next spring if they like it or if I need to make more adjustments. Getting 4 chickens not sure what breed yet have to do my research to see what's a good egg laying chicken that's kid friendly 🤔

    Nest box opening

4 birds, The roost first roost bar is 21" off the floor and second longer one that runs across the coop is approx 26 inches high. I didn't want them to low. But I can remove the 2x4 spacer block I added to lower the bar down to the same height as the smaller bar, just thought it would give them...

    Nest box opening

Thank you for the advice, I can't cut into where you drew red as that's the top of the box, however I can cut down the plywood where you drew the green arrow. Or even remove the plywood and just add a 2x4 for some separation. Why 12" from the wall ? To avoid Poop on the wall ? Thanks
