I found a home for him, but I might try that next time. Thanks!

Anyone want a super sweet frizzled rooster?! I'd love to keep him, but he's getting too loud for my neighborhood. He was hatched from eggs I bought from Donna Rippy. I'll deliver!

Anyone have a 1/2 dozen or so silkie hatching eggs?

Sorry about your flock :( My first chicks I ordered from mypetchicken.com, and they all arrived fine, but I agree, not the best way. My next batch, I bought fertile eggs from DMRippy, and put them under a broody silky.

Help please-Silkie can barely walk, getting worse.

Very interesting and helpful, thank you. I let my silkie hatch a few fertilized eggs last year. I kept one hen, but I live in the city, so I don't do much hatching. After this experience, I'm definitely going to look into ordering the vaccine. I've been giving her Vitamin B complex and...

I don't think her eye color changed, they look dark brown/black. Is Mareks common in this in area? I'm afraid that's what it is, but I thought most younger birds got it? I do not have a rooster. Should I put her down? :(

Help please-Silkie can barely walk, getting worse.

Thank you for your help. Others were vaccinated, but she wasn't, the hatchery said bantam chicks are too small. I was thinking it wasn't mareks, because she's 3 years old, but she has no control of her legs now. I was giving electrolytes, and just started putting B-complex in her water.

Thank you, I'm afraid that's what it is too. She's 3 years old, so I thought that wasn't it. However, she's rapidly becoming more lame.

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong with my 3-year old silkie hen? Over a week ago, I noticed her acting strange and discovered she was limping. I've checked all over her feet and legs and can't find any kind of cut or bumble foot. She can kick both legs and move feet-so not broke. She's...

    Cat, possum, or something else?

Thanks everyone! I'm going to set up a trap as suggested!

    Cat, possum, or something else?

I live in the city, and have a fenced in backyard. I've never had predator trouble, except a hawk in day time. I have a secure coop, but sometimes I don't close the back chicken door until later at night (lesson learned)! Last night, I heard a terrible squawking. Took my dog with me as I ran to...

I have a beautiful 6 month old rooster, for free to a good home. He's very sweet and not aggressive. I'd love to keep him, but I live in the city.

    Rooster sleeps on ground

He is a large rooster, so I made him a "step stool". Tonight he was snuggled in with the hens on the roosting bar, so hopefully that solves it. Thanks everyone!

    What is this insect?

Thanks, I think it may be Sryphid Fly

    What is this insect?

The last few days a swarm of bee like insects have been hovering around the coop. It is black and yellow, less than an inch long, and very thin, unlike a bee. They have not tried to sting me. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks!

    Rooster sleeps on ground

He has been on it a few times, but he always seems confused at night. His hatch match always sleeps on the roost. I had a thinner roosting pole a long time ago, but they didn't like it. Thanks everyone!

    Rooster sleeps on ground

He was hatched, along with another hen, by my Silkie, so he's always been with the flock. That is the only roosting bar, I only have six chickens all together. The hens love it and always sleep there, could he be too big? He appears to be feeling fine.

    Rooster sleeps on ground

I have an almost 6 month year old rooster (coop has hens 6 months-over a year old). He keeps sleeping on the floor, under the hens. There is plenty of room for him on the 2*4 roosting bar. I tried to gently place him on the bar-that was a mistake. Do roosters like to sleep below the hens?
