I close my Human big door and its locked with a eye hook latch.I close my little hen door. But what I DID DO to all the doors and windows is buy kitchen cabinet magnet locks..It takes a few pounds of pressure to pull them open....It works well.. I also have heavy gauge quarter inch square metal...
I have the same thing with one of my RIR..She is the "*****" of the flock and she definitely is the protector of are 3 bird flock. She will sometimes try and peck at my freckles on my legs when I go in to get the eggs. She also always tries to take treats from my sweetheart lil hen...
I myself did NOT use a 4 inch hole punch. After lining up the elbow I traced the hole around the elbow.I just drilled a starter hole with a big bit on the bucket and then used my jig saw to cut the hole.I also cut the hole on the inside of the circle I traced so it would be a tight fit.I then...

Um,yah good concept..bad approach....CHEAP,yes..SAFE dont think so... This needs some safety steps added and a few things changed...He didn't us a out door extension cord and the wood could catch on fire not to mention they could knock over the water container...SCARY!!!!
If you make the 5 gallon water bucket with the chicken nipples you can put a plastic bucket water heater in it(they make them for livestock, cattle ect)... I suggest hanging it from other than the handle on the bucket . I and several others have had the handle break due to the weight of the...
You can always cut off some of the pvc on the elbow to make it shorter/closer to the bottom of the bucket..Then they don't have to reach so far..Make sure to sand and edges that may catch on there combs...You could always use a 2 gallon bucket and a smaller elbow fitting..

I have been looking/checking around but I haven't found any stray eggs...There are no bushes or real hiding places...The Yards pretty clean and mowed...I have a play house that I leave open because they like to dig in the dirt in it....No eggs there either... I hand feed them fruits and veggies...
I have 3 RIR...I know 2 are laying because I found 2 eggs at once..I believe the third bird started laying because I found a soft shelled egg the other day.I have now only been finding one egg..It has been 90's and even 107 with heat index the last week.Would the heat slow down the production ?
I have 3 hens about 20 weeks old.One started laying on the 4th of July...She lays her eggs in the nesting box. At night all the hens snuggle together in the nesting box.How do I get them to NOT go in the nesting box at night to sleep? Should I make the nesting box smaller? It is currently about...
My coops interior is a beautiful sky blue. Just by chance I got a $40 dollar paint for $9 bucks that they colored wrong.. They seem to like it and its bright and pretty every time I have to go clean it..
