Awwwww!!! You are so lucky to have a non-specked (no spots) BCM egg colour... very envious!!! Congratulations! Hold on to that chicken especially lol I really do love their egg colour.
The egg she hatched from was a very nice deep chocolate brown colour. I did check her vent and she is dry. She hasn't been free ranged at all this winter so she cant be laying anywhere else.
Some slight stress towards the end of last summer only minor stuff like I sold the cockerals that were part of her hatch and her other mate (a hen that was also part of her hatch that I kept) died of unknown causes... then I added the 2 EEs and it's been the same 3 since... and no other stress...
I got her from a private
She is definitely not an EE. I went and saw the pen and there were only BCM heritage roosters and hens, picked the eggs from the nests myself and hatched them. Another friend of mine went to the same breeder and hatched them a couple of weeks after mine and hers are...
I have only had 2 other hens in my flock with her... and they are both laying because I have checked everyone's vents and they are Easter Eggers and I'm getting 2 different shades of green eggs... I have also confined her for 2 days as well and no eggs...
17% laying mash... plus any vegetable scraps from the kitchen and oatmeal (only like 2 or 3 times recently during the bitter cold days)... she is also allowed to free range when she wants to on nice days...
