Hello everyone, I have been instructed by the Mrs. to get 3 hens that lay blue eggs.
Anybody in Fairfield County CT have a few extra they'd like to go to a happy home? We have 11 Red Cross (from Benedict's in Monroe) with plenty of space for them to roam around. Our 16 year old tends to the...
Guys, you'll never remember all the things you did incorrectly but your wife has them meticulously filed.
Just a fact, accept it, made me happier when I did. :-)
Black socks, they never get dirty, the longer you wear them the stronger they get.
Sometimes I think I should wash them, but something inside me says, not yet, not yet, not yet.
Just harvested the last of my beefsteak tomatoes. I'll let the girls roam around under them for a few weeks, nice place to hang out during the day. Most of my figs have ripened up and we've gobbled them up. I hope our northeast indian summer ripens the rest of them as I need a few more pounds to...
We had a few that did that so we just pick them up and bring them to the the coop. A little encouragement and kinds words and they caught on within a few days and no go in on their own. It's funny hearing my 16 year old son say "what chu doing out here girl? you need to go to bed now. come on...
Just another way big money is trying to keep us a dependent upon their inferior products I think. In Norwalk, CT there is the noise ordinance so roosters are a no outdoors go but the only other rule is that a chicken may not reside in your house with you unless it has a diaper on.
Thanks ChickenCanoe. That's the kind of netting I got too. Have to say I hope it does not get tangled in the net as I'm no looking forward to freeing it. I respect that its a predator and it can mess me up.
Maybe suggest to her you guys try one of those "rent a coop" site that will provide a coop and a few hens for a few months? That way there is no long term commitment (that should be reasonable to mom), you learn from he experience, and most importantly you can prove that you are indeed...
Daughter came running back inside and said a big bird carried one of our girls away. So bummed because this was the hen that kinda kept to herself and never really joined in the flock but she was definitely warming up to us. I found all the other girls were in the coop hiding quite scared. I...
I could eat breakfast 3 meals a day and anytime day or night. Today I had 5 strips of thick sliced bacon and of course a few fresh eggs from my girls over easy and a cup of coffee light and sweet.
Think I'll have to get some more bacon...
Thank you everyone for the kind welcome and shared wisdom. We are up to 11 girls now that are spaced 3 months apart. They are doing a great job and producing 10 eggs most days for us. This is our first profitable hobby as egg sales pays for feed and supplies. :-)
Try crushing some of the shells and add them to their water supply. I had one bird whom preferred to eat clover all the time and did not go for the egg layer feed much (which was their only source of calcium at that time) and she produced soft shells. I added crushed shells to the water and that...
