She died in the night. Was never sure what was wrong. Poor hen. She still ranged in the garden a small amount yesterday and ate a few meal worms I hand fed her. Last night she slept in the egg box instead of the perch, always a bad sign.
I'll see if I have anything like that that I can give her this morning... haven't been up to see her yet today
I did then all together using flubenvet feed in March.
I've had a read and will check her vent again tmw 🤷♀️ from memory it doesn't exactly look like the pictures I've seen just now.
Other chickens all look ok so far.
Why does someone always get I'll just when I'm going away 😬
Thanks very much 👍
Thank you. I'll search that now. She's no better today. Slowly walks around, drinks water and eats very little.
Her vent is a bit poopy from his runny yellow stuff she's passing, otherwise clear looking.
She went up to roost about 6pm again.
I'll see her in the morning briefly first thing...
Would love some advice if anyone knows if I can do anything to help her today. I am away for the next 6 days and my in laws won't help much. Just pop in for eggs food and water.
The same type of yellow watery poop mess under her in the perch again, it's a lot. And she does smaller amounts of this poo throughout the day, almost just leaks out of her when she moves, doesn't look like she goes to much effort to do it. She doesnt apoear to be swollen down below, crop...
Much the same today very slow out of the coop. Not interested in any vitamin water or wet food offered to her. Let the chickens in the main garden and she has come out and is either sitting by our patio wall or in the herb plot. And same big yellow/wet poo mess in the coop same as previous...
Copper maran hens are approx 4yo. Have been healthy until latterly we've had regular soft shells, shells with dark imperfections/scab type marks, or very very thin shells which crumple when they lay them or you go to pick one up. They have growers and layers pellets available in their coop...
Ours so the same. Once the chicks are about 5 months old they stop sleeping by choice in their eglu but instead of going into the main coop where all the others are they sleep in the dead plum tree. They do this for a few months and when i think the hens are nearing coming to lay, I have to...
Done it for the second time tonight too. First time was a very sick weak hen. Husband did that. This time it was 6 2mo cockerels. I had tried the rehoming route first for 6 weeks but no takers and I couldn't keep them any longer.
Was fortunate husband was home too. I held the bird and he...
Maybe because I've bought a few cockerels when starting my flocks. Also my mum has sold a few of mine too. I never thought of using this site to sell but I saw some sale posts pop up so thought I'd try it but I wouldn't have thought to ever look here if I wanted to buy iykwim.
I have also been...
Hello all,
So I have the remainder of my last hatch ready for their new homes. The cockerels are truly handsome now. See pictures and lmk if you need any more info. They hatched on 28th March 2025.
- Cream Chamois Polish
- Black and white frizzle bantum
- Black and white smooth feather but...
I hatched bantum eggs in March and my hatch started on day 20 and the last 2 hatched day 24. They have all been healthy. The one remaining egg on day 24 started seeping by the end of the day so I threw that away. I didn't open it up
13 out of 14 chicks hatched. One of the last 3 was a bit weak and had slightly splayed legs. I treated it with a hobble for 2 days and it seems corrected for now. The oldest chicks are 1 week old now and the last 3 to hatch are 4 days old. They all seem healthy and active and i may move them to...
After 2 days of hobble chick is pretty much corrected. I've removed the plasters as it did seem to be so distressed by them although they were not tight, I could easily slip small scissors up inside to snip them.
Will keep an eye but so far all looks good 👍
