I don’t see anything in her eye and there’s no foam. I can’t tell if the right eye is a little cloudy or it’s just the picture. I thought maybe one of the other hens pecked her in the eye, but I don’t see any damage.
Does anyone know why she may be doing this? When she does open her eye, it looks normal to me. I tried putting a warm compress on the eye and giving her an eye wash. She still keeps it closed most of the time.
My chickens sometimes take a few days to get used to new things. They just have to figure things out on their own. Once they see a “brave” one go in, others will follow. 😊
I may be just worrying too much. You are right. People have been using tires for planting herbs etc. for years. You’re right about the opinion being 50/50. The chickens seem fine, no adverse effects. I’m an over protective mother. After all, they are my babies 😊
I’ve been using a tire for their dust bath for several months now and they love it, but recently (since the weather has been getting quite warm) I’ve noticed the smell of rubber or petroleum—even on their feathers when they come out of the bath. That’s what is so concerning to me. The tire is...
I have kept her separate at night so that I can check her poop in the morning. The first picture is her morning poop. I gave her a warm epsom salts bath and afterwards she did a very watery poop on my husband’s chest (2nd pic).
She is 6 months old. This morning her crop was empty and flat, then when I checked again about 3 hours later it was about half full-not tight and full. I haven’t checked her poop yet (I haven’t caught her in the act). I feed them layer crumbles and scratch grains with a good protein percentage...
I’m a first time chicken owner, so I’m learning as I go. I am worried about one of my chickens. She’s very lethargic. She will stand in one place and seemingly stare into space for quite awhile. She eats and drinks normally. I have checked to see if she is egg bound, and she’s not. Her comb and...
How can you tell if a hen is egg bound? I have a hen that is displaying odd behavior. She keeps running up and down the ramps into the nesting boxes, frantically, and scratching in the nest the repeats running up and down the ramps into again. Multiple hens use the nesting boxes so I can’t tell...
I have a Wellsummer hen that is 22 weeks old. When we got her (about 3 days old) she had deformed toes, one on each foot, that curled backwards. It didn’t seem to bother her. She moved around normally and perched on things with no problem. Lately I have noticed that she’s been lying down a lot...
I agree! We’re scared too! My birds are my babies. I don’t want any of them getting sick. We have our babies in a very large, totally enclosed run. And we constantly monitor them, making sure nothing gets near them, but I still worry lol.
