he has access to dust when he free roams. i feed him all flock pellets, for treats i let them scratch around but he doesnt forage. he will eat blueberries ,and any safe vegetable i give them but not like my hen does. i treated him for lice and mites with permithern dust safe for chickens a few...
So my rooster has improved a bit after looking very rough when it comes to the ability of walking. He can get up better and walk further but isn’t at 100%. What I have noticed though is he will not preen himself so his feathers are falling out and are in poor quality when they start growing...
so the hen took two living chicks. but the thing is that they are all black except the calico princess (two) so she tried killing the two cp's. sadly after i kicked her and the rooster out for the chicks safety she got taken by a predator. but since then the rooster has taken the dad roll with...
ok well she took both of them but the others started getting to big for the brooder and she tried killing the calico princess chicks i have but none of the others so her and the rooster got separated from their babies. i do feel bad but the babies will be safe instead of out in the woods with...
Well I hatched this hen a few years back and she had moved positions in the nesting box with the chick so she could face our rooster ( he isn’t breeding them) and our other hen ( she’s a rir and will kill chicks) and would not let me check on the baby since I couldn’t hear or see it. She got feisty
I have a hen who is broody for the first time ever. She has been broody going on a week with eggs that will never hatch. I have in my brooder 15 3 week old chicks and I took one down to her last night. Today it is still doing well. My question and concern is would she take more that 12 chicks...
However she’s only been broody for a week and the chicks are going on 3 weeks so I don’t want her to have all 15 so I’ll see what she does with this one and try giving her some of the smaller chicks in my brooder barrel
I finally have a broody hen! I have ran her off the eggs she’s been sitting on 3 different times over the course of the last two days and she keeps going back to them! I don’t think they will be fertilized but only time will tell
Now I think I have a hen that is broody sitting on about 10 eggs lol unsure if that is the case since yesterday was the first time she refused to leave the nesting box and our rooster refused to leave the coop and they normally chill in the woods mid day out of the sun
Well out of the 12 eggs i bought one didn’t get past week 2 of development. One died the last day they were supposed to hatch prior to pipping and the last one couldn’t make it out of the shell all the way. So nine of my ayam cemani eggs hatched bought 6 more from rural king that next Friday and...
I got one out and the umbilical cord is still slightly attached the other that pipped is still in the membrane. If I peel it back even slightly it bleeds profusely so I am afraid to go any further to help it but it can wiggle much. The others haven’t pipped yet
These two pipped and I made the hole for their beaks a little bit bigger they pipped at 11 ish but not much more than this. It’s been a while since I hatched and last one was shrink wrapped and I had to assist. Should I wait until later this evening to help
That’s the plan hopefully I got the vast majority of them. I went heavy with it due to the infestation and so I’m hoping that any that hatched today die instantly due to him being coated in the dust still
Update. He is getting up more and walking slightly better than he was. I bought the gard star garden and poultry dust which has permethrin in it and the lice just started crawling to the surface and falling off of him! I put some in the coop bedding as well and in a week I will check him for...
