I have a mixed flock of Cochins & Americanas. One of the hens hatched out 5 babies and one has been hopping since it got big enough to notice. It walks until everyone else starts to run and then it hops, like a bunny! I am not concerned just wondering if anyone else has hopping hens! Was told...
Update: Monday morning I put the duckling out in a sheltered area that was set up for the Momma chicken & her chicks. It had food & water so I figured it would be ok. It seemed happy, liked the sun. While it was out I cleaned the bathroom up & decided I would not keep it in there anymore. I have...
I did not find anything either (on the Vitamin A) but I take it and they are so small that I just used the syringe to poke a hole in it and put a couple of drops on the food.
No noticeable differences yet & also giving electrolytes, probiotics and vitamins in the water, those packets they sell...
An update: the duckling is still going strong. It's legs are getting stronger and causing it to push itself over onto it's back. It kicks & gets turned over only to do it again. It seems to have figured out that being up next to a wall or other surface can give some stability & let it move...
That is what I got yesterday. Giving 2-3 doses per day.
Still does better in the water than on solid surfaces and seems frantic in it's movements but the vitamins seem to calm it a little.
OK, I will be going out later & will get some at the feed store where they are nice to me. TSC has turned me off. The WM stuff has less strength than the other and no B-1 so I think it will do in the meantime. At least I know I have done no harm!
About 4 days old. I have used a very diluted mixture of the liquid B-complex that I have and pretty much done it like you said. It grabs at the end of the dropper & is quick! Have to be careful but no forcing of the liquid, just dripping & letting it grab it. Should I be using the B complex...
Yes to all. Drinking is harder because the manic nature of it's movements mean the water is turned over a lot. Eating is easier as I can stack the food and let it grab what it wants. Acts like it's starving, grabbing at food. Went to TSC and a very rude person tried to sell me a huge bottle of...
Thanks, I will keep trying. Finding the recommended vitamins difficult to locate but working on it. It's a little hectic because I have a hen that hatched out 5 of 10 chicks & my shelter for them has collapsed! The little duckling just seems manic in his behavior, wonder about brain damage but...
My Momma duck had 18 eggs in the nest and only hatched 4. During the hatching process. the Momma duck carried one of the hatching eggs to a bucket of water, dumped it in - it smelled of rotten egg. Three of the hatchlings are fine but number 4 got left behind. It smelled of rotten egg when we...
I am thinking it is correct. They seem normal and their combs are starting to show. I thot my blonde might be an albino because her legs are really pale. Thot she might have sunburn but I am thinking this is normal. I must have been running around like the proverbial headless chicken when I had...
They are still in the asparagus, I am by myself and have not been able to get them confined. Heat wave is making it difficult to finish the project and I am back to work at 4am so my work for the weekend is done. Afraid the results will be coming later. The girls seem healthy and do not seem to...
Sounds like a plan. I will certainly check on them after I get their new place set up and get them away from the asparagus. Thanks for the temporary plant idea - I will see what I can find to get them shaded and feeling safe without poisons to react to! And thanks for being another set of eyes...
OK, I had no idea the asparagus could do that! I had RI Reds that seemed to be ok with it but it could be that their coloring made it hard to see. The asparagus is in the same general area as the wisteria so I am hoping to take the extra day this weekend and finish their confinement to another...
Thanks! The wisteria was here when I got here and is huge - it is not removeable but I try to keep it cut back. I will renew my efforts. I am working on containing them in a different area so will also work on making sure they do not have access to it.
Thanks again for the info, I searched but...
I see no swellings anywhere - got more pics but she only shows me the one side. I will try to hand feed them - they enjoy freshly shelled green peas so maybe I can get them to eat those out of my hand, thanks for the ideas. I thought about the different breed thing but would the orp and the lorp...
