Welp, either the stress of their moving is over or one of em just couldn't hold it back anymore but I came out to check the nest when I got home and guess what!! I got an egg!! so what now? The kids had a blast "finding it" but I cant wait to find some more and hope the other hen starts laying.
They all seem to be healthy but with not knowing their history it has made it a little stressful making sure they continue to be healthy. With all the illness I have read about I am afraid im going to kill my whole flock lol
Sorry I don'
t seem to have a pic of the other hen but can post one tomorrow. Here is a rooster shot though. He has had some issues with this rear and had some cloggage I had to get out. Not fun!
sorry diddles are just a name for chicks here.
here is a pic of the hens.Ones comb is smaller than the other and the one with larger comb is darker red. I believe I have read that this is a sign of maturity and layingness
So I was given a flock of 2 hens, 1 rooster and 4 diddles. Unfortunantly I do not know anything about them to tell if they have been laying, are too old to lay or what have you..So my question is how long before I should expect an egg or expect something is wrong. It has been days and still no...

Been working alot lately on the coop and before I finish up I have a very important question.
Will they be able to reach the roost? It's going to be a 2x4 sideways mounted on the small blocks in the picture. However its roughly 28" off the floor. I wasn't sure if they could jump/fly up and...
Hope this explains it a little more. The yellow 2x2 going between the two roost areas can come out and I can make this into a decent roost area for 6 chickens I think. Wayya think
Thanks for the response.Yes, they will be free ranged. This was one main reason for changing from a coop/run to a coop only. The section the coop is in will be fenced off and I have a back gate which I can open to allow them into my main yard.
Thanks for taking the time to stop and look. I am in the process of building a coop and run on the backside of our yard, on the opposite side of our fence. Actually one side of the fence is going to be used for the run fence. However, I have never constructed a coop before and was wondering if...
