I have two Polish Roosters in need of a good home. Just about 4 months old. I have a Black and Blue and a Silver Laced. The Black and Blue is the smallest and the youngest and is being picked on a little. They currently live in a large coop with a run and free range half the day. Would like...
It's ok, she's doing well. I did not keep ointment on it and it has scabbed over. It's a pretty thick scab, but I think I'm the end it will fall off and be ok. We'll see..
Can I ask what you did to care for the wound. Just had a similar incident happen to my 5 week old Welsummer. The other injury she has looks like the skin was torn from the neck underneath. Not a lot of blood but there is a large flap of feathers separated from the neck. I'll try to get a pic...
Mine are 22 weeks and 5 days: RIR, Buff Orps and Barred Rock. Hang in there!
Have any of them started practicing their egg song yet. Mine have been practicing for a couple weeks. I believe my RIR should be next. She's been singing up a storm and her comb and waddle are bright red!
@chfite- No worries. I wasn't trying to discredit your advice, one other post pretty much said the same thing you had. It's all I had to go by so i went with it. It's a learning experience. :) Chickens are fine and dandy. I just wish it would stop raining for one day.
Went back to Lowe's today to get some more sand today. I had bought some a couple weeks ago for my flooded run and it turned green the next day. I had put a post on here asking for help without much resolution other than it might still be too wet. So, off to the store I went to get some more...
Here's the coop after I put sand in the run. It was flooded for about 2 weeks when I finally got fed up and put down the sand. I still need to put down about 12 more bags but at least it's not a mud hole anymore.
Is anybody else out there as lucky as I am to have a roo that doesn't crow until I let him out of the coop.
He's only been crowing for a week and we've let him out at varying times. Sunday was 8:30 and he still waits till he's outside to sing his song.
Will this last, is this common? I hope so!
I did not pull out all the grass underneath and my husband said that may be why it turned green. My original hope was that there would still be some grass growing around the edges for them to eat. Not sure how wise that was in retrospect.
I put sand in our run last week because of the constant rain and flooding we've been having here in Florida. Looked great for about a day and then turned green and smells worse than ever. Yuck!
The sand has never been able to dry out because it is raining every day without much sun in between...
Just today I put sand in my run because it keeps flooding every time it rains. It has been flooded for about a week so I decided that was enough. Spent the afternoon laying down sand and it worked wonders! The girls were checking it all out when i heard them start purring. I've only heard them...
