I have used the collar from My Pet Chicken. It worked well. You have to play around with snugness and neck location. He could still make a muffled noise, not a full blown crow.
When I got my Jack Russell pup he was 9 weeks old. I introduced him to my flock immediately. He was leashed and I allowed him to wander and explore the birds with me. He was rewarded for ignoring the birds and if he got in their faces the birds corrected him.
I eventually allowed him to wander...
I used the same boxes when I had two egg eaters. They worked well until they figured out how to stick their heads thru the opening the eggs roll thru. They ate the eggs in the tray. I ended up taking the two hens to auction.
Last year I got a Jack Russell Terrier pup at 9 weeks of age. The first thing I trained him was that chickens were off limits.

I bought my first batch of RIR chicks 4 years ago. Raising them was a lot of fun but they were nervous and never really bonded with me.
Three years ago I started hatching my own chicks and the process was amazing. I learned so much, and will never tire of watching a chick pop out of the shell...
I agree with you! Follow the rules in your area. It's always a few law breakers that spoil a good thing for everyone else. I give extra roos away or I take they to auction.
I used a no crow collar on my rooster and it worked great. The trick is getting the right fit on the neck. I had to play around with it to get it right. My rooster tried to run backward to back out of it when I first applied it. He eventually accepted it.
You need to recheck the fit frequently...
I keep my girls for their yummy eggs and stress relief. I love to go to the coop after work, sit down and interact with them while I relax. They are interesting creatures.
