Hello, all! I'm a new Washingtonian but not new to BYC or Chickens, although I usually post over on the EZ board BYC...
Anyway, I used to live in So Cal and had Seramas in my garage... and a few bantam cochins in the backyard coop... then my dream came true and we bought a 5 acre place near...
Hey, more WA folks! Hi! I'm in the Kent/Covington area... Sounds like we have a lot of members up here!
I would have loved to have gotten some chicks but I have a pretty large bunch of girls right now along with 16 3 week old chicks and 5 1 week old chicks. Sigh...
Anyway, if you decide to...
I feel for you. I just moved to Washington from Cypress, CA. I used to keep my Serama roosters in the garage... but even that was touchy.
Is there a rancho or educational farm anywhere near you? Even if you have to drive down to one of the ones on the coast, maybe one would like to have him...
Wow... you sure do have a lot of questions LOL... that is really good.
1st, I'm moving to Kent in a few weeks! We'll be virtually neighbors!
Can't really answer you about the location issue as I'm unfamiliar with the weather up there as yet...
As far as the wing clipping... that really...
I'm voting on OEG with Arklady...
As far as the sneezing and gurgling (specifically the gurgling)... that could very well be Coryza... if you don't see big improvement within a day or so, put him on Sulmet which you should be able to find at the feed store. Also, there is an oily stuff with...
All chickens are really dusty. It's amazing how much dander and dust they generate. My seramas are currently all on wire cage floors and there is still a ton of dust everywhere!
Outdoors in the coop I have pine shavings that I get by the bale at WalMart and it works great. I only use straw...
Hmmm... wish I could help you with the dogs but I've got 3 myself and one is a bit militant! lOL... Kids and hubby will be welcomed with open arms. So, you just have to figure out a pooch sitter!
When/if you come to my place, it will be the same deal... you'll figure it out. I've made 6+...
I LOVE it!!! That is great. You are going to love being a chick momma! Getting the chicks is just the beginning... watching them grow and then lay their eggs... and all the other things they go through... it's a great journey!
Start by seeing who has good ones here and at the other BYC forum... mostly, you'll get the best quality Frizzles from show quality cochin breeders (I assume you are looking for frizzle cochins)... Remember that whatever frizzle breed you get will need to stand up to the standard of whatever the...
Where in Oregon are you? We are moving to Kent, WA... can hardly wait. Escrow closes next week but I'm here in So Cal until the end of the month. There's going to be a BYC Chickenstock in June... at ChickChairs place in Poulsbo WA on the 17th. I plan to go... and plan to take Mr. Roo with me...
Dang... you are sooooooooooooooo hooked!!!
I'm telling you... I've loved chickens since I was a kid growing up in the city. It's something some folks get and some folks just don't...
I can actually visualize your chicks and the thrill you have with them all looking at you... aren't they just...
Poppy... save my email... [email protected]
Get ahold of me next month. You can come visit my birds. Bring hubby. He will want some soooooooooooo bad. I won't have any available until I can get settled and hatch some babies but will soon... and I LOVE to share. not in this for money...
