She's a barnyard mix, around 10 months, a big bigger than a silkie but unsure her weight. She's softly sneezing a lot and doesn't lay anymore. I can't tell if that's from the stress of the heat, new flock mates (she's been getting bullied), or sickness. She's been like this for about 2 weeks? No...
No change in bedding, and my chickens free roam my backyard and sleep in the trees so no coop.
No other symptoms, maybe eating less? But hard to tell if it's me being paranoid.
One of my hens has been sneezing softly for about a week and I'm a bit nervous she has something with her respiratory system at this point. It's not a normal loud chicken sneeze, but a soft one like a huff, but still obviously a sneeze.
What should I do?
Hmm I'll try that, but if these chickens are that spoiled I don't know what I'll do!
California, it's nearly summer. That's why I'm so concerned! I guess it's been a bit cold recently, generally 60 degrees.
They moved here 4 days ago. Help! I've kept their shallow bowl full and clean and they've barely been drinking it at all! I change it every day and toss the excess water into my compost and refill straight from the tap. Is tap the problem? What do I do! I'm so worried. Is it because I've been...
Hi! I'm located in San Jose, I'd love to rehome your hens. Here's my current flock right now, only 2 so far. They free range in my backyard and eat lots of yummy fresh veg in my garden!
Hello! I have 2 beautiful girls already, both mixes. One is a barnyard mix and the other is a silky mix I think. I'm located in San Jose, so if you're willing to do the drive, I can meet up Salinas, about an hour from where I am. I let them free range in my backyard.
Thank you! And you're right, I'll probably just use my boxes as shade or maybe mental stimulus for the chickens instead. Thankfully I live in California where it's super dry, but it doesn't hurt to be careful.
I've been collecting free plywood and pallets from FB marketplace for a bit, I was planning on making something from that. I do have a couple friends that could help, so I'll probably just stick to the reclaimed materials. Sad I won't be able to make it a cute little house :(
I was planning on sealing it with plasti-dip to help with molding, so hopefully this won't be a problem. I had cardboard out for a day or two with the girls to see how they'd react and they were very uninterested in it.
Is making a coop out of cardboard a bad idea? Itll only be for summer, I don't think I'll have the time to build an actual one until the semester ends in a month. Right now they sleep in a fenced up old desk LOL. Here's a quick little design I made, since it's not gonna be forever, might as well...
