We don't have power right now, but we got through it ok. To be honest, I was out of state during Charley, and was very young when I did so. This was my first hurricane so I didn't know what to expect. It was one of the scariest storms I have ever seen, and both my parents said that it might have...
Yeah we are just gonna keep our nine chickens in the coop for now. We have screen on the sides that goes underground, and some 4x4 posts that are a few feet in the ground as well, so I'm pretty confident that it will not blow over, unless a tornado happens to spawn right on top of the coop...
Well the hurricane decided to take a turn to the west and is going to plow right through central Florida. Local authorities are telling us to stay put for now because there are too many evacuees on the road. Lol people are so frantic. I was in the parking lot of Publix, and some lady with a...
Lol don't be afraid. Here in Florida, hurricanes are just an inconvenience. We simply don't flood like Houston and New Orleans. Im not gonna pack my bags and leave just because of another hurricane that is probably not even going to directly hit us! Lol I'm not angry, but just know that we are...
Guys relax! I'll be fine. First, it's going to go through Cuba, and that will weaken the storm to about a cat 3 or 4, or that's what I have learned from the latest update. Second, the models are predicting that it will move farther east, and just grazing the coast. Third, we don't have flooding...
We don't have anywhere to go. I've lived through a few hurricanes so I know what to expect. And it's also unlikely that it will be a cat 5 by the time it hits the Orlando area. I'm just worrying about the run flooding out.
We have nine chickens, so we might have to lock them up in the coop. It also has two 4x4 posts that are attached to the ground so it probably wont blow over. Otherwise, I could purchase nine chicken diapers and keep them inside the house lol
We are in the path of Irma, and I am nervous too because we live on a river, and we fear that it could rise and flood the area. It may not go that high, but I'm going to buy some sand bags or mound the dirt around the coop up as a precaution. Hope this isn't as bad as Charley!
Hey y'all, I hope this is the right tread to post this in...
We live in sunny Central Florida, and it's starting to look like that category 4 hurricane Irma is going to directly hit our area. I've lived through a few hurricanes, but not with chickens. Any suggestions on what to do?
Hey y'all. This morning I noticed some sort of dent in my hen's eye. It is white and round, and it doesn't look like a cataract because this is on the surface of the eye. She prefers to keep it closed. Could it be a pecking wound? And how should I treat it
My rooster has always been nice and tame. One time, he tried to attack me though, so I went into the house, put long sleeve clothes on, and went outside and stood my ground. When he realized that he couldn't hurt me, he stopped, and from that moment on, he has never tried to attack me again. I...
Thanks for the information on the surgery. My leghorn hen has bumblefoot on both feet and i am planing on removing one of them tomorrow. Hope it goes well.
Hey y'all. Earlier i noticed two large blisters on both my leghorn's feet, and wondered if this could be bumblefoot. I was thinking of doing the removal surgery but wanted to know for sure if it was bumblefoot. The right foot in particular looks to be more swollen and noticible on the top of the...
Hey y'all. The other day I saw two of my brown leghorns laying next to each other, and all of a sudden, one of them went to the other box and started laying in the same box as the other chicken, even with three other available boxes. I know that this is a common problem and thought it was pretty...
