They were half correct about the Bali being different from a runner.
The Bali Duck (Balinese Crested Duck) weighs around 2.25–2.75 kg (5–6 lb) with a slender, upright body. The body carriage is not as varied as that of the Indian Runner: Balis tend to vary between carrying their body at angle...
Yep...AZ.
That's what I use to...shallow black rubber feed pans. I scatter several around the runs for the birds to stand in and they love it. Tried ice and they didn't like it...they wouldn't stand in the bowl with ice in it and it melted so fast that it didn't seem helpful. Not enough water...
Hi everyone- just signed up as a new member, Happy New Year to you all! What a fantastic site and collection of forums and articles...
we‘re based in the UK (near the city of Bristol) and have kept chooks for 10 years now - recently started to keep Call Ducks too over the last year...And love...
This is Gimpy, He is one of our four Rouen/Pekin mix Drakes, he and peanut were both runts and had AW as babies. Peanut looks normal now after wrapping his wings while he was a baby, Gimpy on the other hand is a mess to put it nicely. Gimpy looks more like a Tom Turkey with his droopy wings and...
I do not think it's scoliosis in fact he looks like an "Exhibition" Rouen . There are two body types for Rouen's, "Standard" which is what you normally see at most hatcheries, has much cleaner lines and considerably thinner than an "Exhibition" Rouen which have a very large chest, lower set...
Thank you to everyone for posting with your information, greatly appreciated. :) This has definitely been another one of those new duck learning experiences for me. I am happy to learn that Gimpy is an Exhibition Rouen breed over having some serious health related spine deformity.
I have been...
Thanks for the information that is very interesting, I knew nothing of any exhibition type Rouen duck breed. We were told from the private individual we got these ducks from, that they were a Rouen Mallard, Pekin mix, we had no other information on them then that.
I posted a picture of Gimpy's...
They are Muscovy. Got them at our local feed and grain store. Food is Barlett game feed, what the man at feed and grain said they use. After the first duck died, I started adding some oats, brewers yeast and grubblies meal worms and occasionally pepitas, but I grind the pepitas and meal worms...
Got the ducks from a local backyard breeder who has sold to other people I'm in touch with. The duckling that died was 9 days old. It seemed completely fine about an hour or two before it died. Eating, drinking, running. We check on them very regularly. Then, suddenly this duckling was on its...
Hey everyone!
This is our first ever chicken coop!
I went through so many ideas and designs and then we just threw all those ideas in a big pot, cooked it, burnt it and started all over from scratch with a limited idea of what we really wanted and just kept building like legos!
I wanted a big...
I think I heard my female do it also, I only have 3 ducks and I spend time with them so I have seen them do it many times,..Today my drake did it while I was playing with them and his sister the female did it also but didn't arch her back and raise her head like my drake does and he does it...
Very interesting, I’ve done all the things you listed with the remaining ducklings. I’ll definitely keep an eye out with my little guys. My big ducks are on Dumor too and I didn’t have a problem with them, but I’ll start keeping a closer eye on them too.
Thank you!
You didn't say what the age/sex/number differences were, and I'm assuming you're either keeping him because he's the runt or the only rooster you want to keep. As advised above, separated by a cage or one at a time back in the brooder are the best bets, but I understand that those aren't very...
Thanks for sharing those details.
My DH is an accomplished builder but I very much like the cattle panel concept for ease of construction, especially if I want extra coops to separate birds for sale, broodies, etc. :)
Someone else posted about a few dwarf geese their Canada Geese have hatched out. Those were just noticeably smaller than the other geese but otherwise normal.
Your gosling appears from the picture to have a stubby neck possibly with an archedback. You could try feeling the spine to see if it’s...
