Keeping them cool on a hot day?

I gave mine some yogurt, and puréed frozen watermelon and berries. They did not like the tray of water I put out for them to walk in.

    Naughty chickens

So, lately two hens refuse to come when called from free roaming (always the same two). The other four come and enter the run when called, and receive corn as a treat. All of the chickens love corn. So my question is: how do I get the two delinquent hens to listen? I suppose it’s worth noting...

    Training

Anyone have success training their quail? I was hoping to train them to come, and become more comfortable with handling so I can catch illness/infection in early stages. Litter training would be nice. It would keep my basement tidy when I’m cleaning their cage.

    Quail chicks in the garden

I bring mine out too. I did have an eagle circling once so I gathered them all up and went inside. They love the garden.

How do I convince my newly bought one-month-old quails to eat veggies?

Have you tried cutting it up small?

    Aggressive male quail

Hi, So I bought some female quail to keep with the friendly male I selected to keep from my initial dozen. Problem, the male who was previously sweet and loved being petted is now acting aggressively towards me when I am trying to clean the cage. He will bite and jump at my face. Is this...

    Quail toys?

There are “foot” toys for birds. Things like little balls, foraging toys, etc. http://www.healthybird.net/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=18&zenid=qc22uco2vkh1r9irt16f6424j2

    Trouble sexing my coturnix quail.

If you can’t see the difference in the vents, try feeling for the gland by the vent. I found the gland was easier to feel. Of course I also had all boys, so there was no difference to see. Lol

    Introducing new birds

Girls are in the main cage, boys out in a smaller one. The new birds all seem calm.

    Introducing new birds

There’s a poultry show tomorrow and I will finally be getting some hens, happily unrelated to my boys. I have 2 remaining roos. (Butchered the rest) What is the best way to introduce them? Will the boys be fine because they are finally getting girlfriends. Or do I have to watch for aggression?

    My male quail turns aggressive

Could you put a divider in the cage you have? So they can see each other, but the male can’t peck at the hen?

    Male coturnix aggression?

Yes, males will be aggressive towards each other. I have a dozen males. Some of them now have little bald heads. In the Xl dog crate I use for a cage, I now have an upper level with 2 birds that get along together (but were being picked on in the group). I also had to remove 2 aggressive...

    Male coturnix aggression?

Mine are showing aggression now they are 5 - 6 weeks old. Unfortunately, all my chicks were male. I have had to separate two pairs of birds from the rest of the flock. Most of my boys have bald heads.

    Hardware netting

Hi, I am planning to build a run for my quail. I would like some honest opinions about this chew-proof plastic hardware netting. Has anyone actually used it to build a coop/run? I was thinking that this would be a great option to bury under the floor of the run. Benefit, of course, is that...
