I am a city chicken rancher. I had 5 (limit was 3, is now 8). New neighbors moved in and complained about the noise of them and a city inspector came out and sent a letter saying we had to get down to the legal number in two weeks, which I did quite quickly on Craigslist. I guess he reinspected...

I wasn't sure if my internet order took the first time (it didn't, connection hiccup) and they got back to me really fast via email, and invited me to call and place my order if the internet way did not work out for me. That was nice.
I did yesterday via mail. I called the post office to see if they were in, and the clerk informed me they sent the box out via my postal carrier on his mail truck! Wut.
I was kind of bummed to see I got 15 packing peanut roosters, since they are illegal here. I requested that they charge me...
White Silkie "El Bandito", just under two years (hatched 5/08). Very non-aggressive like every other Silkie I've owned. She lives in an urban environment and is used to adults and children. She is laying Silkie-sized cream-colored eggs.
Giant Blue Cochin "Rose", hatched 4/09. Laying "medium"...
I only have one EEer so I know for sure when she started laying and how often--I'd say between 26-27 weeks, and she was really reliable, giving me 4-5 large yummy eggs a week.
She's dried up this month, though. Her comb as gone darker and she won't squat for me anymore. COME ON, SPRING!
My orp...

I thought maybe I could sell them, but I have been in kind of a karma mode since New Year's, hee. I have been giving things away that I can spare and it is making people happy, and people have been giving me things as well.
4hchknmama and I have talked and she is coming to pick them...
I have two healthy, laying Sicilian Buttercups to give away in the Seattle metro area.
There is nothing wrong with them. I just have too many birds for my space and they are not amiable like your typical backyard breed, so they are the ones to go.
Very pretty birds, but they are standoffish...
I kept chickens a few years ago, moved around, and just got a new batch this spring now that I am settled. My EE and Orp are 19 weeks, I have two Silkies that are 17 weeks, and my two buttercups are 14 weeks old.
This morning they had a huge cackle party that went on for at least five minutes...
I have added cayenne to my feed since I put my chickens out of my house and into theirs. I do it to keep the squirrels out of the feed.
Instead of gorging for several minutes, they take a couple of bites, their tails twitch, and they rocket back up the tree. It's too expensive to feed chickens...
I think we have resolution here. This batch of chickens are all new this spring, and have been pretty quiet so far. Just this morning, they all had one of those big ten-minute cackle parties, led by the white Silkie. I'd forgotten how I'd missed that noise! I guess I have my answer now.
Thanks, Teresaann24, that's exactly what I was hoping someone could show me. You have a nice boy there, and I hope you can keep him. I live in a dense area and cannot.
Now if I only know why they are such different sizes. It is a mystery.
Thanks again, all.
Hi team, I have been lurking for about six months and have found this thread to be really helpful as I raised up chicks this spring. I got two Silkies (a breed I LOVE) in the hopes that they would both be female. Almost immediately my white one outpaced my partridge in growth and with a more...
