ohh pardon me...I missed your post!
the chick made a full recovery in just a matter of 12 hours post hatch. We did not end up doing any intervention for this chick...by the time we ran to town and got the tape there was progress noted in chicks feet and we decided to just closely watch the...
this is a photo of one of our frizzle cochins when he was a bit over a week old...hope these help
the frizzle wing feathers was obvious a bit younger age than these above photos...but this was youngest I could find in our pictures to share with ya.

she makes attempts to walk around on her hocks...she can get around fairly well considering she is a few hours old...she is pretty wobbly on her hocks when trying to walk...
I have not seen her move feet or toes yet
paralyzed?
curled toes?
oh I was wrong...both feet are wrong!
its almost like poor little fellas feet are folded in half together make sense?
I try to get photos through the incubator window and its bad reflection.
it would be like a persons tumb and index finger folded over palm side against pinky and ring...
well we just experienced our first Mama brooding! way awesome! she had 5 eggs set. 1 stopped 2nd week. 4 left all hatched. *yeah for Mama...she did far better than me!*
however one chick was left in the nest and still completely wet (last hatch) and freezing to the touch. Mama left it in the...
...Our adult rooster can get them a going big time!
when he comes over to their fence line...next to their outdoor run he crows at those babies lots. *hehe* about half of the pullets run for dear life into the coop. others squat and the rest crow back at him or keep stretching neck, running...
I would also guess girl....absolutely adorable! wow
here is two photos to compare our cochins for ya.
both are 6 wks old and same hatch date. (yes our pullets little comb is reddish it did not come out so great in the photo though. she also has pretty visible red wattles too)
and little roo man
our best guess on this little one was a RIR bantam?
very petite chick. smallest in the group. absolute sweetheart and sooo outgoing.
at first thought roo...but as time passes might be pullet? no major changes in comb the last two weeks.
this is Mocha Jo @ 1 week old
next is now @ 6wks old...
...to the history (fighting) in the breeding of Brahmas that makes sense.
I hope removing the others will calm them and help their nice side grow. *there is for sure high tension and problems with the Brahmas.*
mmmmm
got me thinking also about....
*they are nice for the most part when you pick...
ahhh adorable! we have the troughs and covered tops on the large feeders so there is no chance of one getting to do that.
but thats just precious.
I have a little Golden Laced Cochin that almost every time I hand feed the chicks he hops up in the middle of my hand and lays down on the food...
...very aggressive for their age and we have actually this week needed to separate out some of the cochins and silkies and duccles from the Brahmas! *all the other breeds are sooo gentle and docile compared to these Brahmas.*
Yikes I am so baffled.
is the standards different? is this the...
...the girls of our presence by calling them and running as fast as he can towards us...BUT he always stays a distance back and the girls eat first. *I think this is positive and the right relationship with him* sure it would be nice to pet him and handfeed him...but I think it would blur some...
arlee and Bama wow thank you that makes sense now.
I will have a look around in the buy/sell. I appreciate your help.
I did not even think about that when we got the chicks from the hatchery.
makes sense that they cant invest time to do a complete inspection of each chick when dealing with...
yes I did get them from a large hatchery.
I really appreciate you help and wisdom.
so that answered that not to use the 6 toes or extra toe nail silkies...bummer half gone. guess I learned.
I best start looking for good private Silkie breeders.
if I may inquire is that a common practice...
...toe siblings) for any breeding program?
would it be likely that even the correct toe chicks still carry the genes for cross beak and bad feet?
*no splay legs or crooked legs all looks well except two cross beak and half chicks have extra toes. (mostly in the whites)
thank you for your time
...after a month or so she sorted herself out and began to lay very nice 38-40 gram eggs 3-4 times a week.
her eggs are often a bit misshaped. *ridges and elongated* but all have been pretty consistent in size the last few months. (38-40 grams) then she not lay the last few days and then today...
oh no we dont need another roo!
of course we have to keep this one its way too special in our family now....
Zoo Keeper thank you for compliment...
