I don't have an alternative grit option for them when they're cooped up. I will get one, I didn't think of that actually. I don't think they had any crop issues, I just don't know for sure.
We do have good ventilation. We made sure of that last year when we had to build an addition.
I thank...
ok... I don't think we will be getting them to any university.... Cornell is close but at this point it is not possible for us to do that.
No neither (i'm assuming on the first) were egg bound. I was home for the second death so I checked.
We have a heated coop because for example it was -4...
well we just had another bird die...
after we got rid of our roo over the summer I think she was in charge of the flock.....
DH said he found them both on their side.
gritsar-
how do you know if its a heart attack? how do you prevent it?
this second one (yesterday) was perfectly fine...
Well I don't have much information on this one.... but -
DH gets home before me at night. He feeds and waters the girls and makes sure they're in for the night....
He never told me that the last few days one pretty lady was acting different.
well when he came home last night he called me and...
ok, i've read this whole thread and noticed a question that popped up a couple times but never got a response (unless I missed it somehow)
-do the eggs taste different?-
I think i'd like to do this becuase when we have terrible wind and snow and rain mix, we keep the girls in all day and...
^ agreed with most of this post!
we had an lg and it was great. we had never hatched anything before and did fairly well.
def have it in a room with steady temp etc (the manual tells exactly what to do) and i'd say set it up a couple days or more ahead of time just to make sure it's steady...
i won't be of too much help as i don't have ducks... however i believe the red light is for heat. not for keeping them laying. I know we had to change up our window situation for the most natural light to keep our hens laying... we either have the heat (red) lamp on, on a timer in the cold...
I dont' know exactly where she's losing her feathers but i have heard that happens with mites BUT when we had our rooster..... our hens were bare all the time after awhile. He definelty had his favs.....
do you have a rooster?
and the hens very well could be pecking at her... once they have a...
i think there's more than one.....
in pics 4-6 up in the top right there is a clear view of tail or wing feathers.
I don't know if that's what everyone else is seeing too.....
eery pics.
glad you have a cam to keep an eye on them!
i'm glad it wasn't able to get your birds! i can't imagine!
but with that being said... that's a gorgeous hawk.
i'd rather look at them from a distance too.... we have a fake owl up on our coop.... i can't say for sure that it is what is keeping the hawks away but we get fly overs and never had...
problem with barn cats or even a house cat... they will eat the chickens too... not just the rat.
our closest neighbor is about 1.5 acres away and they have a million barn cats..... they stalk our coop all the time....
A neighbor further down (we live in the country) did kill one of the cats...
I might be interested in them for $20.
I purchased a few (can't remember the quanity) a few months back from someone that was selling them for my son.....
the price you are asking was just about what I paid for the others. I don't think there were 150 so the prices was a little less....
I have...
I don't know for sure if they're molting... they were losing their feathers for awhile but at the time we had a rooster. he's been gone a couple months now and their feathers are coming back in quite well.....
they are all 70 weeks (today actually) - we don't always have oyster shell.... they...
so... we have at least one egg cracking hen.....
our ladies lay their eggs from about 8-10am all the way til about 5pm..... (we're at work)
and on average there's about 1 egg a day that is cracked. My son has even seen a hen peck it and crack it open.
I have no idea which one is doing it...
