Trisha,
You met my sister at the post office yesterday and I guess you two had quite a conversation. She called me last night and sounded like you put a very big impression on her. She wanted me to look up your site here on BYC.
I have three different types of Marans, Welsummers and Silver...
Well, I have already tried it several times laying them on their side and keep getting fully developed chicks that don't pip. I have tried the dry method, wet method and several other methods.
I was also thinking about making some small racks out of dowl that I could set them on, on their...
I have 30 marans eggs that are due to hatch in a couple of weeks. I plan to place them in an egg carton for hatching, this will be my first time trying this method. Should I place them straight up or slant them as much as possible?
I am going to try hatching my eggs in a carton for the first time. I have searched and found a lot of information on the subject but nothing talking about the specific position of the egg when you place it in the carton. Do you stand them up straight or slant them as much as possible? This is...
I ordered some day chicks from Rancher's Poultry Supply last Spring. They are now six months, eight days old and I got my first egg from one of the pullets today. Better late than never. :-)
I have one pullet from eggs I purchased from Erhard Weighs that is three weeks older and she still...

Search~ The BCM that were the same age very well could have molted out those white feathers after their first big molt. There are some lines of BCM that will have a couple white primaries until the big molt or they gradually turn black. No worries about the white on the BCM until after...
Happy Chooks, PinkChick,
Thanks for the reply.
I also have some BCM the same age and some had white flight feathers. But, they are gone so I'm thinking this fellers white flight feather is here to stay. Guess I will give him a little more time.
Thanks again.
Question: I have some young Wellies, four months old. One of the cockerels I was hoping to not cull has a white flight feather. Would I be correct in assuming that at this age he is not going to lose it. These birds are Grisham/Hall line.
Thanks in advance.
ChikieLyn, Happy Chooks,
You both welcome anytime.
I have four from Erhard Weighs and eighteen from Randy Bevins. All chicks at various ages but by the end of summer they should be looking good. But, if our in the area, stop by.
ChikieLyn,
I'm just getting into Wellies myself more or less. I had some birds that came from a hatchery and wanted breeder quality. So, I got rid of the hatchery stock and now have chicks that are Grisham/Hall that I got from Randy Bevins and a few from Erhard Weighs
They are still very...
I have four chicks in the brooder right now. One seems to be a pullet, distinct eye liner and "V" on top of head. One seems to be a cockerel, no eye liner and blurry "V" on top of head. The other two have the distinct "V" on the top of their heads but no eye liner, pullets or cockerels?
A couple of questions from a new BCM owner.
I hatched some BCM chicks from two different breeders but both of their lines or Bev Davis and they are now seven weeks old. I have a pullet that has clean legs, I have two cockerels that have heavy feathering on their legs (snowshoes) and still...
