Need all replies. Please help Beloved Silkie Clemmentine is ill...

She hates yogurt. She liked canned cat food tho I am not sure I should be giving it. At this point I am just happy she will eat something. She was very vocal this morning about something. She wanted me out of bed. She hopped up on the side of her "box" today which she has not done in a while. I...

Yes she is slowly getting better. I was able to watch her in her play area the yesterday and she is still having trouble keeping water in. But she is spilling less each day. I started giving her poly vi sol in her baby parrot food (she is eating plums, good wheat bread and leaves off the...

Chicken Flesh Eating Disease? Warning-Graphic pics

I am so sorry for your loss. You CANNOT blame yourself. You did what you could. One thing I have learned is chickens can be very fragile. I have never seen anything like that either. Make sure you bury her very very deep. My sympathies.

Chickens are losing their neck feathers! (not molting)

Sounds like you may have feather picking. Do they get to free range. Chickens get bored. I have been told it could be due to protein deficiency as well. Try "flock Block" of seeds and let them free range longer in the day.

    Blind chick

My heart goes out to you and your baby. She will always be a special needs chick. You may always need to keep her from the rest of the flock as she will maybe always be on the bottom of the pecking order. I suspect if she goes back into the main flock population they will pick on her. I had a...

    Sevin?

Just use it sparingly. I have used it on chicks but only in the litter in the brooder box . Not directly on a chick.

    Sevin?

I have used seven dust with good results. But I did poison one of my little Sebrite hens on accident. Not sure how it happened I can only guess. I let them all about of the coop and dusted the coop. She must have run back in when she saw me dusting. The only thing I can think of is maybe she...

Possible Cocci - how to treat 2 different age flocks?

I recommend corrid (amprolium) after reading these forums it's the best. Plus it's used in the medicated start and grow. Search this website for corrid or amprolium and see what you find. Speckled hen on this forum / a moderator I believe is very knowledgeable. Sulmet is cheap and more...

Possible Cocci - how to treat 2 different age flocks?

Cocci is everywhere. Wild birds bring it. I laugh when I hear people say they scrub and bleach and burn things. They are getting rid of beneficial stuff too. I mix flocks all the time. Over the last 6 years of my chicken keeping I have come to realize that the more "sterile" I try to keep their...

Possible Cocci - how to treat 2 different age flocks?

You need to switch the chicks in the house to purina medicated start and grow. As soon as they get most of their feathers I put mine outside gradually; say 20 min a day to start. The medicated chick starter contains Amprolium which blocks the vit. K that the cocci live on. By blocking the Vit. K...

Possible Cocci - how to treat 2 different age flocks?

Stop the sulmet now. The chicks in the house dont need it.

A protein deficiency? Feather picking and bleeding. New to this problem.

My flock has feather picking issues as well. Once it gets started it pretty hard to break. I read about this on forums as well. Mine never made each bloody, just ugly and bare necked. The only thing that helps for me is to let them free range from morning til dusk. They get bored in the coop and...

    Please help! Sick girl!

Sorry I am of no help but you're doing the right things so far. Could it be mites? They mess with the birds and cause all kinds of crazy symptoms. I have a golden Sebright that was tripping around and could barely walk. Checked him out, had mites, cleared up the mites and he got better. None of...

Awe. I am so sorry about your baby. When things like this happen we feel so helpless. Make sure he is warm all by himself. When my babies are sick I put a little apple cider vinegar in their water and put a red light on them for warmth. You are doing the right things. Where did you get these...

wrong end of the egg, advice pls

Do you have your brooder ready? You will need it for the chick. I would leave the one chick alone till its all dry. The peeping of that chick helps the unhatched to hatch as well. As for the one that is hatching from the wrong end; if it were mine I would let nature takes its course. In my...
